Russell “Rus” Stuart Nix, age 45, passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. Born on January 21, 1968 in Jackson, Mississippi, to Mr. Curt Nix and Mrs. Jan G. Delk, Rus attended R. H. Watkins High School in Laurel, Mississippi.
In 1986, Rus joined the U. S. Army and became a veteran of war after serving three tours of duty.
Rus was currently enrolled in the program of Culinary Arts at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi. While attending the culinary arts program, he was a part-time chef at the Hattiesburg Country Club in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Rus had a passion for cooking and had future plans of opening his own catering company. During his spare time, Rus enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and spending time with his family.
Rus was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Laurel, Mississippi, and a church member at First Baptist Church of Ellisville.
Survivors include Rus’ wife of 20 years, Dory Rigdon Nix, as well as his children, the late Ian Nix, Erik Nix, Angie Nix, and Evan Nix. Other survivors include his parents, Mr. Curt Nix and Mrs. Jan G. Delk, sister, Ms. Cindi Nix; and two nieces, Jan Jefcoat Reeves and Anna Jefcoat.
Memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church in Ellisville, Mississippi on Friday, July 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. The place of burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Jackson, Mississippi at 3 p.m. Friday.
