Emily Renee Scruggs

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Emily Renee Bullock Scruggs, age 78. She was born on December 26, 1946, in Laurel, Mississippi, and passed peacefully on December 28, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Robert Earl Scruggs for 58 wonderful years, a devoted mother to her two children, and a cherished grandmother to her four grandchildren and soon-to-be great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Cornelius and Lunette Anderson Bullock; her sisters, Patricia Ann Morrison and Wynell Bullock Simmons; brothers, Jerry Cornelius Bullock and Thurman Osto Price, Jr. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert Earl Scruggs; sister, Pheobe Jane Matthews; daughter, Robin Renee Goodman (Perry); son, Robert Michael Scruggs (Angie); and her grandchildren, Adam Jacob Goodman, Avery Michael Goodman (Irene), Sarah Emily Parker (Samuel), and Sadie Flower Scruggs. Pallbearers will be Justin Neil Matthews, Dennis Ryan Matthews, Victor Eric Bullock, Mark David Lyon, William Kennon West, and Samuel Wayne Parker. Honorary pallbearers: Michael Kipling Simpson, Russell Glen Burnette, Darron Thomas Dodd, Andrew Vowell Brown, Kenneth Scott Parker, and Glenn David Williams. Renee and Robert were high school sweethearts, a love story that began in their youth and blossomed into a lifetime of shared memories and unwavering devotion. Her life was a reflection of the love and kindness of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and she lived each day with grace, compassion, and a heart full of love for those around her. Family was everything to Renee. She delighted in attending the events and activities of her children and grandchildren, always their most devoted cheerleader. She found immense joy in cooking meals that brought her family together, and caring for the plants and flowers that added beauty and life to her home. Renee leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and selflessness that will forever inspire those who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her love is a gift that will live on in the hearts of those she touched. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Bethlehem Community Church. Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place immediately afterward in the Bethlehem Community Church Cemetery.
