Glenda Guthrie Shows

Glenda Guthrie Shows, age 64, entered Heaven on August 6, 2017. She was born to Robert Glen and Vonnie Dean Guthrie on June 23, 1953. She grew up in Laurel, MS with her brother, Robby, and their loving parents. She graduated from RH Watkins High School in 1971 and was head majorette in the marching band. She starred as the Featurette Twirler for the Jones County Junior College Maroon Typhoon Marching Band and graduated from Jones County Community Hospital's radiology program in 1975. Glenda was a dedicated mammographer for 42 years and was the first person in Laurel trained to do mammograms by MD Anderson in Houston, TX. Glenda married the love of her life, Ruel Shows, on May 25, 1975. They raised their two children, Sally Suzanne and Joseph Ruel, in Stringer, MS. Glenda was preceded in death by her father, Robert Glen Guthrie, and brother, Joey. She is survived by her husband, Ruel Shows; daughter, Sally Shows; son, Joey Shows; mother, Vonnie Dean Guthrie and Allan Blacker; brother, Robby "Arlo" Guthrie; brothers-in-law, Jim Shows (Rosemary) and Todd Shows; sister-in-law, Renae Shows; nieces and nephews, Willie Shows (Valerie), Leah Shows Mason (Wes), Ashley Shows Stringer (Jeff), Laurin Shows Beech (Jay), and Greg Shows; great nieces and nephews, Lanie Shows, Will Shows, Avery Mason, Everett Mason, Amelia Mason, Kinsley Stringer, Lennox Beech, Stella Beech, and Holden Beech; very dear cousins, Melissa "Missy" Holifield, Tracey Hill (Shane), Haley Hill, Austin Hill, and Macey Hill. Glenda was a juvenile diabetes fighter and cancer survivor! She was completely devoted to her family and served them with all of her heart. She was dearly loved by her co-workers and her friends. Glenda's warm smile and contagious laughter always made people feel at home. She took the extra time to make each and every one she knew feel special and significant. She was deeply loved and will be missed terribly by all who knew her. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, at Memory Chapel in Laurel. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Memory Chapel with interment to follow at Shelton Cemetery, 2274 Monroe Rd., Moselle, MS. Bro. Drew Blanton will officiate. Pallbearers will be Willie Shows, Greg Shows, Jeff Stringer, Wes Mason, Jay Beech, and Shane Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Dewayne Brown, Kathy Sumrall, Trish Morgan, Rose Herrington, Charlotte Hancock, Ginny Gough, Tasha Stringer, and Kayla Shaw.
