Mary Margaret Holifield

Mary Margaret Holifield went home to be with her Lord on April 4, 2018 at the age of 89. Margaret Holifield was born on August 26, 1928 in Sylvarena, Mississippi. She resided in Laurel after moving here with her family at the age of sixteen to work at the Reliance Manufacturing Company. She married Malcolm Houston with whom she had two children and started a small business, Houston Meat Processing Plant. Widowed only a few years later, she kept the business going while raising her children, showing the strength that characterized her life. She later married Loyce Holifield and welcomed a stepson and another daughter. Her faith and her family filled her life. She was a member of Kingston Assembly of God Church in Laurel where she faithfully attended Sunday services. After those services, she had her family over for delicious home-cooked meals and fellowship. Margaret was an avid gardener and grew both ornamental flowers and vegetables in abundance. She will be missed much by everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Gircel Russell; husbands, Ollie Malcolm Houston and Loyce Holifield; brothers, Delmar Russell, Billy Russell and Marlon Russell. Survivors include her daughters, Anita Houston Adams and Cynthia Holifield, stepson, Darrell Holifield, and son, Jimmy Houston; sisters, Ruby Wooten and Jo Russell; grandchildren, Paul Adams, Holly Houston, Caleb Houston (Rebecca), Seth Houston, Anna Beth Houston, Sam Houston, Faith Houston, and Hope Houston; and one great-grandchild, Finn Ollie Adams-Hennessey; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2018 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. The funeral will be Saturday, April 7th at 1 p.m. at Kingston Assembly of God Church in Laurel, with burial following at Sunset Gardens Cemetery. Reverend Scott Davis and Howard Houston will officiate the ceremony. Pall Bearers will be her grandsons and beloved employees of Houston Processing, Paul Adams, Caleb Houston, Seth Houston, Sam Houston, Manuel Martinez, Grant Callen, Patrick Callen, and Andrew Callen.
