Virginia Truitt Denham

Virginia Truitt Denham passed away peacefully on March 7, 2016 at Northview Villa Assisted Living in Laurel, MS. Virginia was born January 26, 1926 in Greenwood, MS. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday March 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Laurel, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. Dr. Randy Turner will officiate. Virginia was a loving mother, devoted homemaker, and excellent cook. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family. Virginia had an unwavering faith in God worshiping at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL, Christ United Methodist Church in Memphis, TN, and First Baptist Church in Laurel. In 1948 Virginia married John “Jack” Franklin Truitt of Minter City, MS and they were married for 55 years. Their life’s journey took them to Greenwood, MS, Greenville, MS, Tuscaloosa, AL, Hoover, AL and Memphis, TN. Virginia and her husband Jack were big supporters of Mississippi State University over the years, attending many football and baseball games together. In 2007 she remarried Homer T. Denham, Jr. of Laurel, where she resided until her death. She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands Jack F. Truitt and Homer T. Denham, Jr.; parents Ruby Melcena Stinson and Curtis Austin Stinson; sisters Marguerite McWhorter, Jeanette Dunn, Elizabeth Stinson , Bernice Oswalt; brothers Curtis A. Stinson, Jr., and Lloyd H. Stinson; and sister-in-law Laura Truitt Williamson. She is survived by sons Jack Franklin Truitt, Jr. of Birmingham, AL and Hal Stinson Truitt (Robin) of Collierville, TN; daughter Betty Truitt Taylor (Billy) of Laurel, MS; daughter-in-law Lynn Truitt of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren Jeff Truitt (Kristi), Truitt Taylor (Shelley), Laura Taylor, Kelsey Truitt, and Colin Truitt; great grandchildren Macy Truitt, William Taylor, and Mary Segrest Taylor. The family expresses sincere thanks to the Northview Villa Assisted Living for their loving care provided for the last 7 years. She loved the staff and her many friends there. The family would also like to express sincere thanks to all of the sitters and caregivers who attended to all of Virginia’s needs in the final stages of her life.
