Betty Sue Todd McGill

An amazing woman passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022, her name is Betty Todd McGill. She was known and loved by all in the community and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Todd and Virgie Shows Todd, her sister Mary Lou Todd, and her oldest son Steve McGill. Betty was the epitome of a southern lady gracious and sweet but underneath she was a steel magnolia. She proved this to be true many times in her life. After her divorce she went to work for Randall Boone at Physicians Mutual Insurance. She worked there from 1983-2003. She was a beloved and loyal employee who because of her strong work ethic became the Territory Office Supervisor traveling to 23 offices in the southeastern states to train secretaries in company procedure. Because of her strict adherence to company procedure, she was known as "By the Book Betty." Betty became a member of Laurel Business and Professional Women because of their commitment to women helping women. She was President of the group from 1996-1997. She received many awards during her time with the group including 1996 Woman of Achievement. She developed close friendships with many women that lasted a lifetime. During this time, she also modeled for McRae's and became a Mary Kay Representative and lifetime user as her beautiful wrinkle free face shows. Betty truly enjoyed all these activities but her greatest pride was being the mother of two fine sons she loved very much and also being a Sunday school teacher and church secretary at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Betty is survived by her son Clay McGill (Pam), granddaughter Jessica Watson (Bobby), her great grandchildren Landon and Kinsley Bryant, and Olivia and Landon Cade Watson, her cousin Dot Brown, and her three sisters-in-law, Pansy McGill McLean, Sandra McGill Penuel and Susan McGill Slade, plus many friends from across Jones County. Betty was blessed to have wonderful sitters that took exceptional care of her in the last few months. One of these blessings was Allison Dearman who became not just a sitter but a friend and someone she could count on which she did for three years. Although LaToya Clark came into Betty's life later to help her, she soon became an important part of Betty's life too, her personality kept Betty laughing. Her friend Linda Suttle was exceptional she went above and beyond to make sure her long-time friend was well taken care of, day or night she was there for her. Judy McGill would go every day to make sure she had her mail, her garbage was taken out and everything was ok. She and Betty shared a strong love for a good book. Betty was truly blessed to be surrounded by people who had her best interest at heart, who loved her and who she loved. The family would like to thank Dr. Carolyn Cegielski who took such excellent care of Betty. We would also like to thank the staff of South Central Regional Medical Center for their care during her recent hospitalization. Betty will be deeply missed by those of us who knew her and whose life she made brighter by her presence. Funeral services are being handled by Memory Chapel of Laurel.
