Bobbie Lou Tanner

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home for Mrs. Bobbie Lou Tanner of Laurel, MS with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Bro. John Cockrell will officiate with burial to follow in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matt Nunnally, Landon Nunnally, Wyatt Stewart, Jeff Stewart, Don Jefcoat, Bobby Windham, Jimmy Windham. Bobbie Lou Tanner, age 95, passed away on April 22, 2024 at Brookdale Assisted Living facility of Hattiesburg, MS. She was born on October 20, 1928 in Taylorsville, MS to Eula Ainsworth and Selonee Stringer. She married the love of her life, Rooney Tanner. She was a graduate of Taylorsville High School and attended nursing school at South Mississippi Charity Hospital in Laurel, becoming a registered nurse. Bobbie was a nurse for several years at Masonite Hospital, Jones County Community Hospital, Laurel Medical Center and then ended her career at the Jones County Health Department. She retired in 1998. Bobbie enjoyed reading, bird watching and working in her yard full of flowers. Even after she retired from nursing, she was always willing to help with the care of friends and family. She was known as one of the “Charity Girls” who were nursing graduates from Charity Hospital. They held reunions for many years after graduation to remember their times helping the Laurel community. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Bobbie was a faithful member of West Laurel Baptist Church. Bobbie is survived by her daughter Judy Nunnally (Harry). She has two grandchildren Matt Nunnally (Melanie) and Emily Stewart (Jeff); two great grandchildren Landon Nunnally and Wyatt Stewart; and sister Mary Stringer Thomas of Brandon, MS. She was predeceased by her husband, Rooney Tanner; parents, Eula Ainsworth Stringer and Selonee Stringer and in-laws, her sisters and their husbands, LaNelle Stringer Gatewood (Charlie), Loraine Stringer Hards (Elmer) and Bettye Stringer Jefcoat (Dale); Ellen Stringer Watkins ((Frances); her brother, Roland Collette Stringer; her son-in-law, Harry Nunnally; her brother-in-law, Doc Jefferson (DJ) Thomas and her niece, Mildred (Millie) Jane Gatewood Colquitt.
