Bonnie Sue Bates Roney

Bonnie Sue Bates-Roney of the Centerville Community May 5, 1933 - January 22, 2016 Age of 82 Born into a large loving family in Sharon, Jones Co, Mississippi, on May 5, 1933. The daughter of Willie & Mellie Bates, she spent the majority of her life in Jones County. On Sept 28, 1950 she married Dale Roney and they were married 65 years. Mrs. Roney was a devoted wife, mother, a homemaker and devout Christian. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school at her church, for many years. Being surrounded by her grand children and later great-grandchildren was a highlight of her day. She ran the house, helped on their family poultry farm and garden. She attended church at Gateway Baptist, Bethel Baptist and Centerville Baptist, over the years. She went to be with her Lord & Savior on Jan. 22, 2016, surround by her children and grandchildren, at SCRMC in Laurel, MS. She is survived by: Her husband, Dale Roney Her 5 children: Brenda Roney-Pilgrim(Johnny), Debra Roney-Butts(Michael), Robert Roney, Donna Roney-Locke(Bobby), Mona Roney-Jenkins. Her Grandchildren: Shonnon Pilgrim-Welborn(Steve), Kimberly Pilgrim-Ellis, Marc Smith(Sharla), Michael Smith(Jessica), Judd Henderson, Josh Henderson, Shalane Roney-Barkley(Brian), Shasta McBay-Leggett(Khris), Kayla Locke, Olivia Jenkins. Her Great-Grandchildren: Jeremie Ezell, Alex Ellis-Labidia(Carlos), Johnna Ellis-English(Paul), Tyler Ellis(Lindsey), Aaron Smith, Anna Smith, Abigal Smith, Adam Smith, Skylar Smith, Elise Smith, Taylor Barkley & Brooks Barkley. Her Great-Great-Grandchildren: Jayden English, Aubree Ellis & Cooper Ellis All of Jones County, Mississippi. Her siblings: Helen Ulmer-Stephens; Gracie Bates-Reynolds; Dorothy Bates-Holifield; Paul Bates; Wilber Bates and a host of nieces/nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Mary ‘Mellie’ Welborn-Bates & William ‘Willie’ Sherman Bates; a grandson Michael Shane Roney; and siblings Justine Ulmer-Skipper; Maxine Ulmer-Rivers; Eloise Bates-Matthews; Charles Bates; Sherman ‘Buck’ Bates; Pallbearers will be Marc Smith, Michael Smith, Judd Henderson, Jeremie Ezell, Jake Ellis, and Brian Barkley. Centerville Baptist Church on Saturday January 30th Rev. Jimmy Hood will officiate Family Visitation: 11:30 am Public Visitation: 12:00 Noon Funeral Services: 2:00 pm
