Charles Clinton Kenney

In loving memory of Charles Kenney of Laurel, Mississippi. On the morning of March 31, 2015, Charles went to be with his Lord and Savior, after a two year battle with cancer. He passed away quietly at home. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 1 from 5-8 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. The funeral service will be Thursday, April 2 at 10:00 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with his dear friend Sonny Saul officiating with burial to follow in Sharon Cemetery. Charles was born in Laurel, MS on July 2, 1940. He was the third child of five born to Clinton and Oleta Kenney of Laurel. Charles was a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. He was a self-employed mechanic for more than 20 years at his place of business, Kenney’s Garage. On any given day, you could stop by the garage and you were always greeted with a smile. No matter what he was doing he always had time to stop and visit. He had an avid love for cars starting at a very young age and continuing until the day he had to lay his tools down. Charles loved people. He loved meeting people and helping anyone that was in need. He did without for himself to be able to help others. Charles was preceded in death by his parents Clinton and Oleta Kenney, brother Roland Kenney, sister Reta Heptinstall, and sister Alta Francis Kenney. Charles is survived by daughter LaNita Kenney of Laurel, son Mike Kenney and wife Jann of Jackson, grandchildren Anna Dennis and Braden Dennis of Laurel, Jon Michael Kenney of Jackson, Kari Kenney Kennedy of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, a great granddaughter Eden Elizabeth Deloach of Laurel, a brother Ralph Kenney of Laurel, a special nephew Steve Welborn, and his dog Heidi. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Southern Cross Animal Rescue, Animal Rescue League of Laurel or the American Cancer Society. Words cannot express the thankfulness we have for our mother, Annette Kenney in the care of Dad during his illness. Special thanks to Mallorie Kitchens, Julie McNeil, Jackie Keyes, and Maxine Cook of Comfort Care Hospice for the deep concern and care for Dad and our family. Thank you to Bro. Drew Blanton for all the visits and prayers that were sent up to our heavenly Father. Last but not least to all the friends that called, sent cards and made visits during these last two years, we are forevermore humbled and grateful. Though Dad lost his battle…he finished his race. His words of advice that will be forever instilled in our minds are “Worry about what you can do something about.” Memory Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
