Dorothy Craft

Dorothy Hankins Barrett Craft passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Lakeview Place, Magee, Mississippi after a long term battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Her family asks that you join them to honor their precious mother and grandmother: 1:pm Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Memory Chapel 3100 Audubon Dr. Laurel, MS. Visitation will begin at 11:am Tuesday. Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery in Laurel. Dorothy, known by most as Mama Dot, spent most of her 89 years making sure those around her way happy, healthy and well- fed! Her delicious cooking and love for having company were well-known. She fed folks catfish, fried chicken, coconut cake and banana splits for years. Perhaps most beautiful, and long-lasting are her intricate needlework through the years, whether it be sewing, needlepoint, cross-stitch or quilting. Her beautiful flowers and lawns showcased her love for gardening. She was truly gifted. She enjoyed fishing and was happy when she was surrounded by children. Most of all, Mama Dot loved her family, her immediate family and all friends she met and considered her “family”. Her spirit of taking whatever she had and making something beautiful will live in hearts forever. Her Christian love and example guided her family and those around her. She will be remembered most by her children and their families, Bill Ray and Carolyn Monk of Collins, Frank and Denise Barrett of Laurel, Barbara and Tommy Harmon of Magee, Steve and Dawn Barrett of Ruskin, Fla and Beth and Richard Biedenharn of Madison. Ten wonderful grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband of forty-four years Frank W. Barrett Jr. and most recently her husband of five years, Louis Craft; one son Johnny Monk; her parents and seven siblings. A special thanks to Faith Kennedy of Lakeview Place, Magee, Mississippi for their excellent care and love the past 41/2 years.
