Dorothy Moore Shell

Our beloved mother, Dorothy Moore Shell, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the age of 92. She was born April 7, 1919 to Rainey and Olive Moore in Aberdeen, MS. Dot lived for fifty years in Laurel, MS where she and her husband, Dr. F. M. Shell, raised three daughters. She is survived by daughters, Cindy (Frank) Wells of Liberty Hill, TX and Bettye (Gary) Keiser of Crested Butte, CO; two grandchildren, Mary Beth (Mike) Farr of Dripping Springs, TX and Frank (Cathy) Wells, Jr. of Decatur, TX; six great-grandchildren, Bradley Farr, Dylan Farr, Joy Wells, Charily Wells, Patience Wells, and Gabriel Wells; also, her nieces, Norma Grace (George) Smith of Jackson, MS, Tina Bradley of Springville, AL, Nancy Vincent of Clarksdale, MS, and nephew, Tom Cartledge of Ormond Beach, FL. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. F. M. Shell, Jr.; their daughter, Sherrye Shell Swartzfager; her brother, Norman Moore of Aberdeen, MS; and sisters, Christine Bradley of Pensacola, FL and Maureen Estes of Tupelo, MS. After working with her husband in his medical practice for fifteen years, she worked for the next thirty years with Wallace Drug Store in Laurel, MS as a bookkeeper. At the age of ninety, she retired to Liberty Hill, TX where she became active in the local senior citizens’ center teaching and playing bridge. Dot was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Laurel, MS. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 8 pm on Sunday, February 19 at Memory Chapel in Laurel followed by graveside services at 10 am on Monday, February 20 at Lake Park Cemetery. The Reverend Gene Horton will be officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Frank Wells, Jr., Gary Keiser, Frank Wells, Paul (Fella) Swartzfager, Butch Rowell, Thomas Rogers, Jim Singley and Bill Wallace. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Farr, Dr. Don Hall, Jack Shields, Charles Twiddy, Jon Swartzfager and Dr. John Wallace. Arrangements are being made by Beck Funeral Home of Cedar Park TX and Memory Chapel of Laurel, MS In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to The First United Methodist Church of Laurel, MS, Laurel Little Theatre, The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, The Domestic Abuse Family Shelter or to the charity of your choice.
