Edith Isabel Adcock Shoemake

Mrs. Edith Isabel Adcock Shoemake, age 102, of Brookwood Villa Personal Care Home, Waynesboro, MS, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025. Mrs. Edith was born June 24, 1922, in Philadelphia, MS in Neshoba County. She was the second child and only daughter of six children to Jesse Martin Adcock and Mary (Mae) Johnson Adcock. At age thirteen, her family relocated to Ellisville, MS. She attended and graduated from Jones County Agricultural High School in Ellisville, MS. In 1947, she was married to James E. Shoemake and became a Wayne countian. Mrs. Edith loved the Lord, was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and an active member of the Junior Auxiliary of the Gideon’s International. Mrs. Edith was a homemaker, providing love and support for her family, which was her greatest joy. They were her life and treasure. She loved them with all her heart, and had many cherished memories. She will be remembered as a sweet, kind, and humble person with a warm smile, always doing something for others. She was affectionately known as “Ma” to the grandchildren, and the great-grands. Her loving care and interest in their activities continued throughout her long life. She will be sorely missed. Mrs. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Martin and Mary (Mae) Johnson Adcock; husband of 71 years, James E. Shoemake; her son, Reggie Shoemake; brothers, Windol, Perry, Jesse O., Jacob Lamar, and Gaines Adcock; and a nephew, Brent Adcock. She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Meeks (Wayne) of Laurel, MS; daughter-in-law, Sheila Shoemake of Laurel, MS; five grandchildren, Bobby Meeks (Missie) of Ellisville, MS, Melody Rigney (Kendall) of Laurel, MS, Billy Meeks of Laurel, MS, Dusty Reynolds of Jackson, MS, and Lauren McKee (Martin Veillette) of Berea, KY; eight great-grandchildren, Kaleb Meeks of Boston, MA, Dylan Meeks (Madeline) of Ellisville, MS, Ali Hodge (Brayden) of Laurel, MS, Kate Rigney of Laurel, MS, Evans, Asher, and Tully Reynolds of Jackson, MS, and Emilia McKee Veillette of Berea, KY; one great-great-grandchild, Robert Wayne Meeks III; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, east of Laurel, from 9 am until 11 am on Monday, January 20, 2025. The funeral service will begin at 11 am with Dr. Steve Smith, Dr. Dave Moran, Jim McEachern, and Kent Miller to officiate. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family members: Kendall Rigney, Bobby Meeks, Billy Meeks, Brayden Hodge, Wayne Meeks, and Dylan Meeks. Honorary pallbearers will be Evans Reynolds, Asher Reynolds, and Kaleb Meeks. Donations may be made to Gideons International.
