Evelyn M. Patrick

Mrs. Evelyn M. Patrick passed away at her home on March 6, 2017. She was the daughter of Annie Lee and R. G. McCraw. She was married in 1948 to William Leighton “Bill” Patrick who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by grandson William Myrick. She is survived by three daughters, Patty (Freddy) Rayner of Madison, MS, Julie Patrick of Laurel and Pam (Mike) McKinzie of Canton, GA; five grandchildren, Pat (Gibson) Rayner, Ginger (Chris) Lively, Jaime (Walker) Thames, Sydney (Jaret) Barker and Shelby McKinzie; and 13 great grandchildren, Laurel and Freddy Rayner, Warner, Jackson, Rayner and John Whit Lively, Roman and Annabella Barker, Audrey, Jackson and Madelyn McKinzie, and Evelyn and Leighton Thames. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and she and Bill were charter members of Trinity Presbyterian Church where she served as President of Women of the Church. She was the former co-owner of Patrick Radio Supply and an Associate Member of Laurel Jr. Auxiliary. She was a member of the Little Garden Club, LOL (Little Old Ladies) Bridge Club, Laurel Heart Association and a Docent at Lauren Rogers Museum of Art. She served as President of Jones County Republican Woman. During her husband’s three terms as Mayor, she graciously served as First Lady of Laurel. Evelyn was an excellent businesswoman, balancing a successful career with a wonderful home life. As co-owner of Patrick Radio Supply, she shared her love of music with the Laurel community. Many remember buying their very first records from her at Patrick Radio. From live radio broadcasts to hosting of Elvis’ Gold Cadillac, Patrick Radio was the hub of music in Laurel, all under the direction of “Mrs. Pat”. She will be remembered as an expert hostess who loved entertaining family and friends in her home. She made the best Gumbo! Known as “Miss Em” to many, she was affectionately referred to as “Meme” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed. Visitation will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday March 9th, with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Mike Allen and Kory Duncan will officiate. Pallbearers will be James Wray Bush, Billy Sumrall, Chris Wilson, Billy Howard, Mike Rowell, Billy Horne, Wyatt Davis, Steve Ellis, Marcus Pollard and Rhes Low.
