Frances Ruth Powers Stevens

Frances Ruth Powers Stevens was born to Charlie and Julie Bell (Belma) Powers on January 8, 1922, in Laurel, Mississippi. It was also in Laurel where she met the love of her life, Lemuel Stevens. Ruth and Lemuel were blessed with 75 years of marriage before she went to be with her Lord on March 29, 2016 in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Bill Powers, sister, Janie Custy, and most recently, by her son, Robert Lemuel Stevens. Survivors of Ruth include her husband, Lemuel, daughter, Deborah Ann Stevens Woodward and husband, William “Billy” Woodward, and daughter-in-law, Joyce Long Stevens. Ruth was blessed with five grandchildren, Robert Dwayne Stevens (Alisha), Sheryl Lynn Stevens Childs (William “Bill”), Todd Allen Stevens (Sandra), William Steven Woodward (Ashley) and Gary Alan Woodward (Victoria). She is also survived by nine great grandchildren: Brent Childs, Brittany Childs Robinson (Josh), Morgan Childs, Ryan Woodward (Rachael), Cameron Stevens, Emma Stevens, Addison Stevens, Hannah Stevens and Chloe Stevens. She was recently blessed to see pictures of her much anticipated tenth great grandchild, Asher Alan Woodward, who is due to make his appearance in August 2016. Ruth also loved being great-great grandmother to Liam Shipley, Reese Robinson and Spencer Woodward. Ruth was an incredible woman of many talents, including beautifully decorated cakes, intricate crochet pieces, afghans, and needlepoint. She loved cooking, reading, gardening and travel. Above all, Ruth will be remembered for faithfully serving her Lord and Savior for over 70 years. She considered the next highest calling in her life to be a loyal and loving wife to her husband, a loving mother to her two children and a proud grandmother to all of her grandchildren. There will be a celebration of Ruth’s life at Memory Chapel, Laurel, Mississippi, on Friday, April 1, 2016, at 2:00 p.m, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 1:00.
