Gloria Jean Ates

Gloria Jean Walters-Ates, one of God’s precious angels, entered heaven on April 1, 2024, at 94 years old. She was born to Curtis Virgil Boler and Glennie Bush Boler-Robine on March 9, 1930. Our beautiful sweet mother is in the arms of Jesus today. She was an amazing person, loving and giving with no limits or boundaries for the people she loved. She was determined and very strong, a true lady in every way. She had a strong purpose in life to always be a caregiver to someone. She was unselfish and unconditionally generous. She loved her flowers and always had the most beautiful yard. Her family, simple things, and Benjie, her fur baby for 16 years, brought her the most joy in her life. She loved shopping at Belk and her friend there, Christina. As beautiful inside and well as out, she was one of God’s precious angels on earth and is now with her Savior, Jesus Christ. There is no more struggling, no more pain, and no more worrying, as she could do that better than anyone. Our precious mother is now healthy and walking hand in hand with Jesus, whom she has known for many years. Our mom will be missed every day. It will be hard as time goes by, knowing she will be not be an active part of our lives. We will carry her love and strength in our hearts until we see her again. We love you dearly mom. She was preceded in death by a baby brother, Virgil, in 1929. She is also preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ernestine Boler Green and Merle Boler Butler, daughter Kathy Ates Morgan, son-in-law Jerry Doggett, first husband James Billie Walters, and second husband James Dallas Ates. Mom is survived by daughter Anna Leah Walters-Doggett, sons James Gregory Walters (Karen) and Roger Alan Walters (Bonnie), son-in-law Alan Morgan (Mary), grandchildren James Deke Merrell (Laura), Justin Gregory Walters, Paisley Robin Walters-Carter (Michael), Kate Morgan, Matt Morgan (Emma), and Bethany Morgan; brothers Charles Robine (Mary Jo), Max Boler, and Johnny Robine (Arlene), sisters Catherine Robine Rucker (Frank) and Marie Robine Raynor (Jon), six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She loved her caregivers, “her girls”, as she called them – Carrie Strickland, Patricia Nence, Clintoria Johnson, and Latasha McDonald (“her baby”). You girls brought such joy to her. You are forever in our hearts. Special thanks to “the best neighbors ever”, Will and Alicia McClendon. A special song will be sung by Will at the service. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 5th at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mill Creek Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Gregory Walters, Roger Alan Walters, Justin Gregory Walters, James Deke Merrell, Donald Holifield, and Will McClendon.
