Hazel D. Easterling

Hazel Dolan Easterling passed away peacefully on July 13, 2014, at Comfort Care Nursing Home in Laurel, Mississippi. The eldest of Mike and Mary (Daley) Dolan, Hazel Ceclia was born in Paulding, Mississippi on November 25, 1921. “Nanny” entered heaven’s gate on Sunday afternoon leaving a lasting impact on generations to come. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Memory Chapel in Laurel. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 17 at Brown Cemetery in Ovett, Mississippi. Reverend Gary Walters will officiate the service. Unique in her ways, Nanny was a true pillar of strength, a voice of confidence and her legacy will be passed down for generations. She had a natural talent for gardening, sewing, cooking, and crafting. She was known for having a quick wit and a master at cards and dominoes. She had an affection for all things outdoors, birds, flowers, and she would not short-cut anything. She was our original Martha Stewart. Mrs. Easterling is survived by her children: Herman Easterling and his wife Janette, Linda Sellers and her husband Wayne, Gay Bush and her husband Philip, all of Laurel, and Clinton Easterling and his wife Patricia of Houston, Texas; and, a brother, Jerry E. Dolan and his wife Carol of Rigs, West Virginia. “Nanny” is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Dawn Easterling Barnett and her husband Bob of Laurel, Clint Easterling and his wife Wendy of Austin, Texas; Shayne Easterling Garrett and her husband Brad of Meridian, Michael Easterling of Saltillo, Mississippi; Shelley Sellers Molleston and her husband Michael, Stephanie Sellers Reynolds and her husband Eric, all of Hattiesburg; Katie Bush McDonald and her husband Tim of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jason Bush and his wife Lacey of Kansas City, Kansas; Amanda Easterling Robey and her husband Brian, Carrie Easterling Parker and her husband Josh, all of Dallas, Texas; James Michael Easterling, Blaine Easterling, and Caitlin Easterling, all of Houston; Laurie Ryals Walters and her husband Steve of Laurel, Lisa Ryals Masters and her husband James of Austin; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Easterling was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Mary Dolan; her husband, Bracey Lee Easterling of Laurel; a son, George M. Easterling of Aberdeen, Mississippi; and, a grandson, John H. Easterling of Laurel. Also preceding her in death were her five brothers: Mike Dolan, Mazon Dolan, Leo Dolan, James Earl Dolan, and Larry Dolan, as well as two infant sisters. Pallbearers will be Jason Bush, Clint Easterling, James Michael Easterling, Michael Easterling, Bob Barnett, and Eric Reynolds.
