Hazel Eugenia Grafton

Mrs. Hazel Graves Grafton, “Miss Hazel”, as she was so lovingly called, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 26, 2011 after suffering a long illness as a resident of Comfort Care Nursing Home in Laurel, MS. Before her illness, she was an active member of Indian Springs Baptist Church where many will recall her as being a very active deacon’s wife, assisting with many weddings, singing in the choir, and teaching the young people along with her husband, “Mr. Webber”, who people will remember as never seeing one without the other. The two were truly life mates. She was also a very active member of the Home Demonstration Club and all type of school functions. Miss Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, Ford and Ruth Griffith Graves of Hebron and her parents-in-law, John Tate Grafton, Sr. and Aline Bauch Grafton. She is also preceded in death by one brother, Ben Graves; three sisters, Betty Graves Walker, Laverne Graves Terry, and Katherine Graves McRaney; three brothers-in-law, Daniel Grafton, Lewis Winn, Robert Walker and one son-in-law, Sammy Evans. Mrs. Grafton is survived by one sister, Jane Graves Winn of Laurel, MS. She is also survived by three children, Dr. Thomas W. Grafton (Patsy) of Hernando, MS, D. Larry Grafton (Marty) of Laurel, MS and Shirley Grafton Evans of Slidell, LA. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Brian Voge, Laurel, MS, Scott Voge (Shannon) Laurel, MS, Brent Grafton (Wendy) Laurel, MS, Chris Grafton (Elizabeth) Baton Rouge, LA, Julie Grafton Smith (Clay) Baton Rouge, LA, John Sumrall, Jr. (Joey), Laurel, MS, Heather Sumrall Nettles (Donald) Birmingham, Al and several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are John Sumrall, Jr., Tripp Sumrall, Brent Grafton, Chris Grafton, Brian Voge, Scott Voge, Jake Sumrall and Matthew Grafton. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 pm Wednesday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. The funeral will be held at Indian Springs Baptist Church at 10 am Thursday, June 30, with Revs. Randy Turner and Mike West officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 9 am Wednesday. Burial will follow at Indian Springs Cemetery.
