Helen E. Thompson, 70, of Laurel died Monday, January 27, 2014, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at Memory Chapel with burial to follow at Memorial Gardens. Rev. Tommy Brill and Rev. Mike Allen will officiate. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and a member of Houston Road Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by two infant children, Shannon Elizabeth Smith and Richard Kevin Smith; one sister, Evelyn Watson; and three half brothers, James Lavell Walters, Robert Walters and Rudolph Walters. She was also preceded in death by her cat, K. T., who many have heard stories about through the years. Survivors include her husband, Jessie N. Thompson of Laurel; one son, William Lee Smith and wife, Tiffany of Ridgeland; one daughter, Lisa Smith Cochran and husband, Mike of Laurel; three step children, Allen Thompson and wife, Tina, Lorinda Kay Moye and husband, Steve, and Darrell Thompson; three grandchildren, Corbin McDavitt, Anna Bryce Cochran, and Britton “Bree” Smith; step grandchild, Josh Cochran and wife, Vicky; step great grandchildren, Bella Cochran, Caleb “Beau” Lawson Cochran, Trey Moye, Christopher Reeves, Alex Reeves, Seth Thompson, Allen Neal “Little Allen” Thompson, Erica Boyd, and Macayla Taylor; one brother, Hubert Walters and wife, Gina of Ellisville; and one very special niece, Darlene Chisholm of Meridian. In lieu of flowers and to acknowledge the love of music which Mrs. Thompson had, the family requests that memorials be made to the Laurel School District Gospel Choir, 1100 West 12th Street, Laurel, MS 39440. Pallbearers will be Tim Freeman, Jay Smith, James Wilkerson, Robert Hayes, Ken Keyes, David Hudson, Chuck May, and Mike Cochran. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Houston Road Baptist Church and member of the Laurel Fire Department. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Memory Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
