Henry Grady Hill, Jr.

Henry Grady Hill, Jr., born May 28, 1936, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, December 10, 2015. A genuine man of tremendous love, compassion and peace who was deeply devoted to his family and his Lord, Mr. Hill was adored by his family and will be sadly missed. He was married to the love of his life, Marie Strange Hill, for 57 years. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Highland Baptist Church. Having worked for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for almost 40 years, Mr. Hill enjoyed his 17 years of retirement spending time with his family, and he especially loved being with his grandchildren. An avid photographer, Mr. Hill had a zest for life and in his final days remarked, “I don’t know where this is going, but it’s been a great ride!” He attended Calhoun High School and was in the United State Air Force. He was preceded in death by a special daughter-in-law, Cathy Ruth Cox Hill, and a precious great granddaughter, Haylee Kayleen McKee; his father, Henry Grady Hill, Sr.; his mother, Mamie Blackledge Hill; and two sisters, Betty Ruth Kellum and Pearl Grace Blackledge. Survivors include his wife, Marie, and his children, Teresa Hill McKee (Dale) of Waynesboro, Larry Mitchell Hill (Monica) of Houston, Texas, and Karen Beth Hill Boutwell (Jeff) of Madison, Mississippi; five grandchildren, Derek McKee (Merry) of McKinney, Texas, Brett McKee (Katy) of San Diego, California, Virginia Abrams (Brantley) of Houston, Texas, Jacob Hill of Houston, and Ann Katherine Boutwell of Madison; three great grandchildren, Kenley Mae McKee, Davis Mitchell Abrams and Annie Ruth Abrams; sisters, Beatrice Busby and Billie Sue Lewis, and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. at Memory Chapel in Laurel on Monday, December 14, with services to follow beginning at noon at Memory Chapel. Interment will be at Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Steve Smith of First Baptist Church Waynesboro and Brother Gene Douglas of Highland Baptist Church in Laurel will officiate. Pallbearers include grandsons, Derek McKee, Brett McKee, Jacob Hill and Brantley Abrams; nephew, Jimmy Ray Blackledge; and special friend and neighbor, Robert Burkes.
