Iram Lola Nicholson Simpson

Iram Lola Nicholson Simpson, 94, Laurel, MS, passed away on August 19, 2024. Iram was born on April 11, 1930, to Travis Paul and Effie Lola Shows Nicholson in Laurel, Mississippi. Iram graduated from Glade High School in the Glade Community in 1948. Iram met Wes Simpson in the summer of 1950 at a Sunday School class party at Bogue Homa Lake. They married on September 6, 1954, where they celebrated almost seventy years. During this time Wes and Iram would welcome four daughters: Nicki Marion Leggett, Tracy Simpson Ford, Terri Simpson Walker, and Jami Simpson Laws. Iram was an avid golfer, she enjoyed playing golf with Wes and she played weekly with the ladies at Dixie Golf Club for many years. She even recorded her first hole in one while playing at Dixie. But nothing meant more to her than her relationship with Jesus and her family. She was truly an example of loving people the way Christ loves us, with an unconditional love. She made each person she met feel so special and always began and ended her conversations with a sweet “I love you” and she truly meant it! She was the sweetest, kindest, genuine and most loving soul a person could ever know. She is the true definition of a Proverbs 31 woman, a godly wife, mother and leader. Iram was the very best mother, a loving wife, the most amazing grandmother to her 7 grandchildren, a wonderful aunt, sister and friend. She loved spending time with Wes, her four daughters, sons-in-law, and seven grandchildren. Loving and serving her family brought her the most joy in life. She attended most every event her grandchildren were a part of, and she had a special relationship with each one of them. She always shared her love of Christ with them, and she made each one feel as if they were the most special to her. Her grandchildren have said if you are having a bad day, call Nannie and she will “make you feel like a million bucks”. She touched the lives of so many people and never failed to tell you how much you meant to her and how much she loved you. She will be missed so very much and will live in our hearts and memories every single day. Iram and Wes are lifelong members of First-Trinity Presbyterian Church. Iram was preceded in death by her husband Marion Wesley Simpson, parents Mr. and Mrs. Travis Paul Nicholson, her brother Ira Ford Nicholson, Sr., her son-in-law James Luke Leggett and sister-in-law Sue Nicholson. Iram is survived by her four daughters Nicki Marion Leggett of Laurel, MS, Tracy Simpson Ford (David) of Ridgeland, MS, Terri Simpson Walker (Kevin) of Madison, MS, Jami Simpson Laws (Bill) of Columbus, MS. Her seven grandchildren Chad Allen Dozier, David Roland Ford, Jr., Willam Chandler Ford, Peyton Iram Walker, Jack Holden Walker, Kyle Olivia Laws, William Russell Laws, Jr. and brothers Levelle Nicholson, Ernest Nicholson (Sherry), Jerry Nicholson (Helen). Pallbearers are Chad Dozier, David Ford, Jr., Will Ford, Jack Walker, William Laws, Jr., David Ford, Sr., Kevin Walker, and Bill Laws. Services will be held at First-Trinity Presbyterian Church in Laurel, MS on Saturday, August 24, 2024. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and a celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Lake Park Hills Cemetery in Laurel, MS.
