Iva Sue Sherman

Iva Sue Sherman, 77, of Ellisville, MS, entered her eternal home with her Lord on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson from a sudden illness. Sue loved sharing her faith with others in a selfless and giving manner and always with a smile. A fierce prayer warrior, she authored thousands of pages of prayers and praise. Born in Laurel, MS, on May 27, 1949, Sue was a 1966 graduate of West Jones High School. Learning from her father, Sue was an accountant by trade and worked for First Baptist Church in Pascagoula, MS, and Alf Dantzler in Moss Point, MS, before owning several businesses of her own. She also served as property manager for Mauldin Properties for 18 years before her retirement in 2025. She was an avid sports fan, baseball mom, and loved golf. She also played basketball in Philadelphia, MS, alongside Olivia Williams Manning. She bowled in leagues in Pascagoula and Gautier, MS, simultaneously for many years and even kept the books at Liberty Lanes. Sue’s sweet spirit, a survivor through her faith and her love for her family, friends, and her work at her beloved place of worship, Christway Baptist Church, all showed that she was loved by many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell Shoemake; her parents, Jerry and Irene Sherman; and brothers Jimmy Welborn and Roger Sherman, all of Jones County, MS. She is survived by sons Guycell Braswell “Brad” (Cindy) Crocker of Pascagoula and Jerry Clayton (Sylvia) Crocker of Athens, AL; brother George (Jeanne) Sherman of Pascagoula; grandchildren Cassie (Joseph) Green of Oakland, TN, Emily Crocker of Pensacola, FL, Cole Crocker of Athens, AL, Damien (Londyn) Woodruff of Latimer, MS, Emily (Brennan) Wolf and Millie (Tim) Cook of Springfield, MO; sister-in-law Doris Welborn of Ellisville; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews as well as other family members. A Celebration of Life service will be held from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. on June 20, 2026, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, MS.
