James Rudell "Rudy" Carr

James Rudell Carr- James (Rudy) Carr , 81, of Sharon passed away at his residence Saturday, March 19, 2016. He was born December 25, 1934 in Jasper County to Freeman Carr and Myrtle Thomas Carr. He retired from the Laurel City Fire Department and the Ellisville Police Department and spent many years in Public Service with the Heidelberg Police Department, the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, as a Jones County Constable, and as a private investigator. He was an entrepreneur and many started their mornings stopping by Rudy’s 7-11 curb store. He served in the Army being Honorably Discharged in 1963 and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Rudy was well known and well loved. He was known for his smile, his whistling, and his cheerful disposition. His greatest joy was writing music and gathering with friends to play music. Many weekends were spent hosting “jam sessions” in his home. He wrote, patented, and recorded several country music songs. He loved gardening and claimed every year would be his best tomato crop ever. He also loved working in his shop and building furniture. He had a curiosity and a love for life, people and his pets. As a life-long learner, he still enjoyed working on his computer and discovering new skills. He is survived by his wife, Christine Minchew Carr of Sharon; daughter, Debbie Hinton of Calhoun; son, Randy Carr of Calhoun; step-son, Gary (Cindy) Minchew of Laurel; step-daughter, Barbara (Greg) Caraway of Houston, TX; step-daughter, Anita (Glenn) Clark of Eucutta; and son-in-law Robbie Hinton of Shady Grove. Also, grandchildren Kale Hinton of Laurel; Haden Hinton of Hattiesburg; Gregory(Abbey ) Caraway of Houston, TX; Ashley (Tony )Saldivar of Houston, TX; Kyle Caraway of Houston, TX; Garret Minchew and Laken Minchew of Laurel; Bradley (Wendy) Clark of Hattiesburg and a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and extended family who considered him PawPaw. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers George (Birdie) Carr, Joe (Rose) Carr, and Bill Carr; and a sister Clara Lee (Joe) McDonald. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 22, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Memory Chapel in Laurel. Services will be at 3:00 pm in the chapel with burial in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Randy Carr, Kale Hinton, Robbie Hinton, Billie Carr, Bobby Carr, and Gary Minchew. Honorary pall bearers will be Laurel Fire Department Retirees.
