Jimmie Weems

Jimmie Weems, 97, of Hattiesburg, MS (formerly of Stringer, MS), passed from this earth and into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 27, 2026. Jimmie was born in Bloomington Springs, TN, on April 7, 1928. She lived her formative years n Cookeville, TN, before moving to Stringer, MS, at the age of 18. She was preceded in death by her mother Myrtle Young, her daughter Patricia Lowery and son-in-law Daniel Lowery, and her son Robert Bankston. She will be reunited in heaven with her former husband Pat O. Bankston. Jimmie was also preceded in death by siblings Ada Woolbright, Pauline Averitt, Gladys Meyers, Grady Smith, Demas Smith, Hallie Garrison, Peggy Kinnard, Nancy Loftis, and late husband Jim Weems. She is survived by her son Michael David Bankston (Beth); daughter-in-law Patricia Bankston; grandsons Danny Lowery, Robert Bankston (Melinda), Jamie Bankston (Kasey); granddaughters Blythe Justice (Chris) and Susanna Gardner (Wesley); great-grandchildren Sara Brewer (Joe), Nathan Ishee, Victoria Bankston, James Bankston, Serenity Bankston, Paisley Bankston, Paxton Bankston, Penelope Justice; great-great grandson Cash Brewer; sister Carolyn Jones (Carl) of Cookeville, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmie retired from public work at the age of 85. She worked 40 years as manager of University Commons Apartments of Laurel. Before that, she worked at J. C. Penney and South Central Regional Medical Center. She made several trips to Russia, Africa, and England on mission trips and as a tourist. Jimmie was active in her church, Kingston Methodist, as a member and a delegate to conference every year. She was also a member of the YWCA and the Eastern Star. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Memory Chapel. Bro. Chris Floyd will officiate. Interment will be in at Sunset Gardens in Laurel. Pallbearers will be Danny Lowery, Robert Bankston, Adam Gardner, Joe Brewer, Nathan Ishee, and Jamie Bankston. “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1-3.
