Joan Eileen West

Joan Eileen West, age 83, of Laurel passed away from this life on March 12, 2017, at home. Joan was born on February 12, 1934 to Charles Henry (“Jock”) Edwards and Robina (Ina) Gilfillan in Hitchin, England Joan was married to James Wyatt West, Jr. They had 5 children, Linda, Roseanne, Richard, Shane and Dawn. She was a dedicated member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she was a member of “Daughters of the King”. Joan was an animal advocate and fostered puppies for SCAR (Southern Cross Animal Rescue). She also made donations to SCAR and SWARM (Safe and Warm Animal Rescue Mission). She was preceded in death by her husband James W. West Jr, daughter Roseanne West, sister Patricia Edwards, brother Peter Parker and parents Charles Edwards and Robina Parker. Joan is survived by her sister Rosemary Proudfoot (Eddie), two daughters; Linda Fontenot, and Dawn Russell (Harold) and two sons; Richard West and Shane West (Thelma), 9 grandchildren (Raina, Lisa Carrie, Charlie, Kristi, Ronald, Robert, Michael and Daniel) and 15 great grandchildren. A special thank you to: Deaconess Home Care: Donnie Dearman and Tish Fisher, Deaconess Hospice: Leeann Bookout, Melissa Hunt, Vicente Moncivais, Teressa Hayes, Bettye Porter, Gloria Booth, and Brother Mike Cochran. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 17 at Memory Chapel. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church with visitation at the church from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Father Jeff Reich and Bro. Harold Russell will officiate. Interment will follow at County Line Cemetery, Hwy 29 South, Ovett, MS. Pallbearers will be Robert Smith, Kyler Gotte, Joshua Citizen, Mitchell Gotte, Gary West, Jr., and Dakota Gotte.
