Joe A Perrett

Joe Alvin Perrett passed from this life on Sunday, February 22, 2026. He was 85 years old, born July 6, 1940, in Jones County where he resided most of his life. He will be remembered for his joy of life and helping others. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Helen Joyce Ulmer Perrett; sons Philip Temple of New York and Don Temple of Ovett, MS; mother Odessa Raybourn; and father Bill Perrett. He is survived by his wife Sherry Robinson Perrett; sons Tracey (Karen) Perrett of Laurel, James (Rita) Robinson of Laurel, and Jimmy (Teresa) Robinson of Ellisville. He is also survived by son Terry Temple and daughter Vicki (Geno) Gordon of Laurel. Joe was blessed with grandchildren Lucresa Rivers, Chris Robinson, Tyler (Brittany), Skye, Hunter, Sawyer, and Emersyn Robinson, and Regan (Brandon) Thompson. Grandchildren also include Tara Clark of Laurel, Matthew (Allison) Temple of Ovett, Donna (Bailey) Collins of Ovett, Stephen Perrett of West Virginia, and Joey Perrett of Georgia. Joe also had eight great-grandchildren including Bo Clark, Audrey, Maycie and Libby Collins, Zack Rivers, Haley Rivers, Fisher Robinson, and Jackson Robinson. Joe had nieces and nephews and friends who will miss him greatly, especially those whom he referred to as “the Hardee Boys” with whom he enjoyed meeting for breakfast and visitation. Prior to serving his community as a policeman for 16 years, Joe served in the Mississippi National Guard. Upon retirement from the Laurel Police Force, he and his wife owned and operated a trucking business, J and J Trucking, where he made many friends and acquaintances. He and his sons could often be found washing area houses and businesses, also. Joe was known to be a wise and astute businessman. Joe enjoyed traveling with family, especially to Tennessee, where he rested and enjoyed viewing nature and the beautiful scenery. During times of natural disasters, Joe was an asset to his community by offering the service of his Bobcat (which he operated himself) for help with cleanup. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. with a service to follow in the chapel. Interment will be at Springhill Baptist Church cemetery. Rev. Steve Kelly and Rev. Johnny Bryant will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tyler Robinson, Matthew Temple, Daniel Harris, Grady Scarbrough, Terry Temple, Zack Rivers, Chris Robinson, and Jason Wade. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Herrington, Bo Clark, Bailey Collins, Terry Abercrombie, Bob Bergan, Mike Baines, Ken Keyes, and Stephen and Joe Perrett.
