Katherine Jane Grissom Gregg

Katherine Jane Grissom Gregg of Summerland, MS, passed away September 1, 2013. She was born on May 30, 1921 to William Monroe Grissom and Cordie Bell Rogers Grissom. Born and reared in Summerland, MS, she was a member of the last graduating class of Summerland High School. She attended Jones County Junior College and MSCW. She met her husband, Leon Benjamin Gregg at JCJC and after they were married, traveled extensively across the United States during World War II as he was stationed at numerous Naval Air Bases serving as pilot and pilot instructor. After the war they returned to Summerland where they made their home. Katherine Jane was a member of the Unobee Chapter of the DAR. She loved music and loved creating beautiful quilts. She loved her family and large family gatherings, but most of all she loved her Saviour Jesus Christ. She served many roles in her beloved Summerland Baptist Church, where she faithfully dedicated her talents and energy. She taught the Special Ladies Sunday School Class for 25 years and was active in WMU and many other church ministries. She loved singing in the choir of which she was a member for over 70 years. She had a lifelong love of the outdoors and was an avid gardener, using her talents of flower arranging for her church. Katherine Jane will be remembered as a strong, faithful , and courageous woman who lived her life with humor, laughter, and enthusiasm, and was a constant source of delight to her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Leon Benjamin Gregg, parents W.M. and Cordie Rogers Grissom, brothers Perrin Grissom, James Grissom, Wendell Grissom and Edwin Grissom. She is survived by five daughters, Janis Parker and Margaret Whobrey (Ron) of Summerland, MS, Judy Neville (Gary) of Orlando, Florida, Susan Clark (Leon) of Demopolis, Alabama, Donna Gibbes (John) of Laurel, MS, and one son Kenneth Leon Gregg of Summerland, MS. She is also survived by two sisters Billie Rose Harrison of Richland, MS, Marilyn Meadows of Kenner, Louisiana and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Grissom of Laurel, MS, Helen Grissom of Summerland, MS, Lela Grissom of Leland, MS and Hettie Gregg Pridgen of Harriman, Tennessee, and one special aunt, Pauline Rogers Wall of Agricola, MS. She is survived by ten grandchildren, Keith Parker, Greg Parker (Louise), Laura Beth Davis (Tony), Kim White Atchley, Tina Neville Lehman (Stephen), Lindsay Clark Bendeck (Brad), Reggie Clark (Bethany), Lauren Gibbes Musselwhite (Chris), Gregg Gibbes (Day). She is also survived by fifteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law Ron Whobrey, Gary Neville, Leon Clark, John Gibbes, and nephew Joel Pridgen. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Summerland Baptist Church Building Fund or Summerland Baptist Adult Choir, 80 SCR 28, Taylorsville, MS. Services will be 3 PM Tuesday September 3, 2013 at Summerland Baptist Church with burial to follow in Summerland Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 PM Tuesday at Summerland Baptist Church. Rev. Stan Buckley and Rev.
