Lana Vondine Welborn McCarty

Lana Vondine Welborn McCarty passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 19, 1950, in Laurel, Mississippi. At the age of eighteen, Vondine married Charles McCarty Sr. and was happily married to him for fifty-six years until he passed in September of 2024. Vondine was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Sharon and in her early years a part of the choir. But ultimately, she was known for her talent for homemade items and recipes. Most importantly, she was the type of person who opened her home to loved ones or strangers. If you saw Vondine, you were either going to find her with a crochet needle in hand, in the kitchen, in Hobby Lobby buying thread, or chauffeuring her grandchildren around. She was an avid collector of angels and a devoted Christian who had numerous jobs throughout the years including: Sunbeam, Transit, Liberty National, Walmart Portrait Studio, and Dollar General. Vondine was blessed to have two strongly devoted granddaughters, Tori and Lori Ward, who were devoted to being her caregivers and personal nurses. Additionally, Vondine was blessed to have two people, Kevin Busby and Ethan Walters, that constantly sought to care for her needs or wants whether it be visiting or helping during her time at the swing bed, hospital, or at home on hospice. As a result, Vondine will be remembered as a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will truly be missed by her loved ones and those that witnessed or were influenced by her kind presence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernestine Johnson Welborn and Lavon " Jelly" Welborn, grandparents, Millard W. and Effie Welborn, Essie and Ernest Johnson, husband, Charles Ray McCarty Sr., and son, Charles Ray McCarty Jr. (Chuck). Vondine was blessed to be survived by her one and only loving daughter, Victoria (Vicki) McCarty Ward (Mike). She is also survived by her second mother, Diana (Grammie) J. Welborn and five siblings: Beth Myers (Mike), Kathy Lee (Randy), Jill Morrison (Bill), and Austin Welborn (Joanne). Moreover, she is survived by her eight grandchildren: Tori Ward, Lori Ward, Joseph McCarty (Hailey), Craig Welborn (Michelle), Tina Welborn (Bobby), Chance Ritchie, Richard (R.T.) McCarty, and Landan McCarty. Furthermore, she had nine great-grandchildren: Pryor, Hazely, Liam, Noah, Madalyn, Austin, Evelyn, Timmy, and Harper. Finally, she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Sharon on Sunday, August 10, 2025 with visitation from 2:00 p.m. until the service time of 4:00 p.m. Interment will be at Sharon Cemetery.
