Lewis D. Henson, Jr.

Retired Lt. Col. Lewis Henson, Jr. Lewis Henson, Jr., age 78 of Laurel, died February 19, 2016, at South Central Regional Medical Center of Laurel due to heart failure. Visitation will be at Memory Chapel Funeral Home on February 24th from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. Funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with burial at Bay Springs City Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Officiating the service, will be his pastor, Rev. James Sprayberry of First Baptist Church of Bay Springs. Born on January 25, 1938, in Laurel, MS, he was the oldest child of Lewis Henson, Sr. and Eunice Poche. Mr. Henson served in the U.S Navy, Mississippi National Guard and the U.S Army. His military service carried him to many places and he retired from the military with 30 years of service. Mr. Henson attended the Laurel City Schools and graduated from George S. Gardner High School in 1955. He was also a graduate of Mississippi Southern in 1959 with a major in Business Administration. Mr. Henson joined his father at the automotive service company in Laurel and soon became the manager and later co-owner of the business. Mr. Henson was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Eunice Henson; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Robert Poche of LA; and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Daniel Henson of GA; his wife’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Eddins of Bay Springs; brothers-in-law, Rufus and Sammy Eddins; sisters-in-law, Mary Ruth Hinds and Francis Jean Anderson; and his beloved cat, “Buffy.” He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jane Eddins Henson of Laurel; brother, Robert Kendall Henson, (Gail) of Ashville, NC.; sisters, Carolyn Pryor of Laurel, and Muriel Spicer (Rick) of Stevensville, MI; three nephews; three nieces; and one sister-in-law, Jo Nell Stringer of Bay Springs. Active pallbearers will be Billy Herrington, Jr., Kyle Hathorn, Billy Herrrigton, Sr., Stacy Pitts, Bill Hester and John Robert Stringer. Honorary pallbearers will be William Spicer, Floyd Pitts, Rayford Lowery, Robert Musgrove, Don Lasseter, Johnny and M.B. Stringer, Jr., Dr. Rodney Lovitt, L.D. Clinton, and Joe Johnson.
