Lewis Bryan Leggett

Lewis Bryan Leggett passed into the presence of the Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 23, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born on March 2, 1935, near Seminary, MS, to the late Myrrh Lorraine (Gibson) Leggett and William Jennings Bryan Leggett, as the second of seven children. After graduating from Seminary High School, he was sworn into the United States Air Force on May 13, 1953. After over twenty years of service, he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant, serving overseas in both the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He enjoyed the opportunity that the Air Force gave him to travel around the world, being stationed in Greece, Canada, and Thailand, just to name a few. After retiring from the Air Force in 1974, Lewis began working at Jones Garden Center in Laurel. He eventually retired for good in 1996, after which he had time for his passion: music. He loved ‘picking’ his guitar across the state with his friends. Lewis also found time to pursue his interest in his family’s history, a journey which he documented carefully (by hand) for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He remained active, until the last couple years, when knee issues, as well as dementia, began to slow him down (a little). Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Myrrh and William; his first wife, Martha (Hickson) Leggett; his brothers, Donald and Stuart; his sisters, Bette Leffer and Marion Murphy; and his second wife, Jewel (Moss) Leggett. He is survived by his sister, Lorraine Lott of Daytona, FL; and his brother, Charles (Darla) of Ellisville; son, Richard (Deborah) of Sandersville; daughter, Ann Moss (Ricky) of Laurel; five grandchildren: Blake Moss (Tiffany) of Soso, Deanna Heisey (Matt) of Taylorsville, Brian Leggett of Ellisville, Mason Moss (Brittany) of Laurel, and Christen Leggett of Ocean Springs; and five great-grandchildren: Ainslee Moss, Declan Heisey, Caleb Heisey, Noah Heisey, and Evie Moss. Lewis was also blessed with his second wife, Jewel, to have an extended family which included his step son, Rex (Jane) Long and step daughter, Lynn (Glenn) Houston; grandchildren: Chad (Brooke) Long, Heath Long, Brent Long, Traci (Clint) Stringer, and Malcom Houston; step granddaughter and caregiver, Anna (Caleb) Cascio, and Miya Brooks; great-grandchildren: Colin (Megan) Long, McCall Long, Ivan Stringer, Issac Stringer, Ivy Stringer, and Houston Cascio; and great-great-grandchild: Colter Long. The family would like to thank caregiver Shannon Terrell and Anna Cascio for their care and kindness during these last difficult months. Visitation will be at Memory Chapel, Laurel MS, Sunday April 26, 2026 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. Service will start at 2:00 with Bro. Corbie Jones officiating, then following with internment at McGill Cemetery in Sandersville, MS. Pallbearers will be Blake Moss, Brian Leggett, Mason Moss, Matt Heisey, Neil Moss, and Ricky Moss.
