Lonnie Edward Stephens

Lonnie Edward Stephens, born on October 14th,1964, in Charleston, SC, passed away on December 5th, 2024, after a seven-year battle with cancer. He was the beloved son of Peggy and Lonnie R. Stephens and proud brother to Elisa Randall-Stephens. As a child, Lonnie cherished his parents dearly and loved to play in the sand. Lonnie answered the call of duty and joined the Navy after graduating from Northeast Jones High School in 1983, where he served as a patriot for twenty-three years serving in both Persian Gulf Wars and retired as a Chief Petty Officer (GMC). He continued serving his country by working for the US Department of Defense as a civilian until his passing. Lonnie was a proud patriot and served his country with honor and dignity. After retiring from military service, Lonnie became an active member of the Laurel Community. As a proud and active congregate of Pleasant Home Baptist Church, Lonnie helped organize various events and activities. One of his most beloved activities was teaching others how to properly handle and maintain firearms as a certified National Rifle Association instructor. Lonnie also enjoyed motorcycle rides and American History. Lonnie mentored many as a Den Leader and Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America. Lonnie’s mentorship has touched many and continues to inspire generations today. Both of Lonnie’s sons, Jacob and Jarrett, became proud Eagle Scouts with their father’s guidance. Lonnie is survived by his loving wife of over forty years Judy Stephens, his sons Jacob Stephens (Sarah) and Jarrett Stephens (Haley), as well as his mother Peggy Stephens and sister Elisa Randall-Stephens (Robbie). Lonnie is preceded in death and met with open arms by his father Lonnie R. Stephens and grandparents. In lieu of flowers, in honor of Lonnie, the family is asking for donations for Prostate Cancer Foundation or American Cancer Society. Visitation will be held at Memory Chapel at North Laurel Wednesday December 11th, 2024 from 9:00 – 11:00 followed by graveside service at Sharon Cemetery at 11:00.
