Lucy Brownlee Mauldin

Lucy Brownlee Mauldin passed from this life on August 13, 2024. She was born on June 22, 1941 in Jones County, Mississippi to Aden and Ethel Touchstone Brownlee. She graduated from Soso High School and attended William Carey University. In 1962, she married the love her life, Douglas Lauren Mauldin of Moss, Mississippi. They welcomed their first child, Christopher Lauren Mauldin in June of 1963 and Doug graduated with a Master’s degree from Mississippi State University a few weeks later. In 1968, Doug and Lucy welcomed their second child, Kyle Aaron Mauldin. Doug’s work took them to Jackson, Mississippi, Laurel, Mississippi, Alexandria, Louisiana, and finally to Waynesboro, Mississippi, where Doug spent many years working for Mississippi Power Company and Lucy was a homemaker. They were active members of First Baptist Church of Waynesboro. Both boys graduated from Wayne High School. Once her children were in college, Lucy’s brother, Hubert Brownlee, convinced her to work for him at his pharmacy, Blackledge Drugs in Laurel, Mississippi. She later worked at his other pharmacy in Laurel, Thirteenth Avenue Pharmacy. She retired in 2015 to continue in her most important job as a wonderful grandmother to her six grandchildren. She embraced this role wholeheartedly and she will be greatly missed by each of them. Lucy Brownlee Mauldin was preceded in death by her parents, Aden and Ethel Brownlee, her husband, Douglas Lauren Mauldin, and her siblings, Beatrice Brownlee, James Hubert Brownlee, and Aden Earl Brownlee. Lucy leaves behind her sons, Chris Mauldin, M.D. (Tammy) of Stringer, Mississippi and Kyle Mauldin (Hannah) of Sharon, Mississippi. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Nicholas (Amber) Mauldin of Taylorsvile, Mississippi, Alexey Mauldin of Bay Springs, Mississippi, Peter Mauldin of Stringer, Mississippi, Olivia Mauldin, Noah Mauldin, and Seth Mauldin, Braxton Buffington, Luke Buffington, and Kennedy Buffington, all of Sharon, Mississippi, first great-grandchild, Matthew Kyle Hand, Jr., of Sharon, Mississippi, sister-in-law, Beryl Brownlee of Soso, Mississippi, nephew, Aden E. “Sonny” Brownlee, Jr., (Jo) of Oxford, Mississippi, niece, Kathy Weintz of Little Rock, Arkansas, three great nephews and one great niece, and several great-great nieces and nephews. Reverend Shannon Slover of First Baptist Church, Laurel, Mississippi will officiate the memorial service at Memory Chapel Funeral Home on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. The visitation will be prior to the service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Union Line Cemetery. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. The family would like to thank the staff and administration of Jasper General Swing Bed and Jasper General Nursing Home for the love and care that they showed her during her stay there.
