Lula Louise Jones

Lula Louise Jones, 91, of Laurel, died Saturday, August 1, 2015, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Pine Ridge Baptist Church with visitation to be held at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Brandon Wilson and Rev. Bob Burch will officiate. Burial will follow at Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker, had green thumbs for growing flowers, enjoyed making porcelain dolls, sewing professionally, and designing clothes for her girls and granddaughters. She was also a gracious hostess for family and friends and you never went home empty handed. Mom loved to travel, especially to other countries. Her most favorite was cruises. She loved cooking and canning. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved her own “mac n cheese”. She and her husband lived in Laurel until 1947 when they moved to Mobile, AL and raised their three children. Her husband was transferred to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1971 where they lived until 1995 when they returned to their birthplace, Laurel, MS She was preceded by two sisters, Hettie Ruth Blackwell and Mildred Lee Davis, and her parents, Joseph Cornelius Crocker and Emma Mae Smith Crocker. Survivors include her husband of 72 years, William Ottis Jones; son, William Ottis “Bill” Jones, Jr. and wife, Marsha of Jacksonville, FL; daughters, Patricia Ward of Orange Beach, AL and Nancy Barrow and husband, Randy of Laurel; six grandchildren, Col. Mike Egan U. S. Army and wife Trish of Winchester, KY, Lt. Nick Barrow USCG and wife, Andrea of Boston, MA, James Jones and wife, Shannon of Jacksonville, FL, Brian Barrow and wife, Melinda of Van Nuys, CA, Amanda Dyess and husband, Keith of Jacksonville, FL, and Andrea Gilmore and husband, Bubba of Brandon, MS; and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Mike Egan, Nick Barrow, James Jones, Brian Barrow, Bubby Gilmore, and Danny Blackwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Judge Billy Joe Landrum, Randy Barrow, Robby Graham, Keith Dyess, Robert Burdette, Travis Whitley, and Tony Buckley.
