Mary Bell Brewer Cleckler of Laurel, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted follower of Christ, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 29, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on November 25, 1943, Mary lived a life marked by grace, service, and unwavering faith. She accepted the Lord as her savior at the tender age of nine; beginning a lifelong journey of faith that defined her character and inspired all who knew her. Her commitment to her Christian beliefs was evident in every aspect of her life, from the way she cared for others to the joy she found in God's creation. Mary began her professional life as a skilled Cosmetologist, sharing her creativity and warm spirit with clients and friends alike. After years of raising her family as a dedicated stay-at-home mother, she answered a deeper calling to serve and returned to school to become a nurse. In her role as a nurse, Mary brought comfort, compassion, and dignity to countless patients, offering a healing presence rooted in genuine love. Outside of her work, Mary found joy and peace in her garden, where she nurtured vibrant blooms, and tended lovingly to her flowers. Gardening was more than a hobby, it was a reflection of her nurturing spirit, and her deep appreciation for the beauty of God's creations. A woman of remarkable resilience and compassion, Mary lovingly cared for her critically ill husband through the most difficult stages of his illness, standing faithfully by his side until his passing. Even as she later faced her own battle with cancer, Mary's strength and steadfast faith in the Lord sustained her. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Louis Carey Cleckler of Laurel; her parents, George and Ruby Brewer of Vicksburg; her brothers Arnold Brewer and Johnny Brewer of Vicksburg; and her sisters, Kathryn Hancock of Pearl and Shirley Thompson of Vicksburg. Mrs. Cleckler is survived by her sons, Allan Ray Pearson and Steven Keith Pearson, both of Ellisville; sisters, Louise Ellis of Huntsville, AL, and Alice Brewer of Vicksburg; granddaughters, Nicky (Matthew) Sumrall of Laurel, Kassie (Kent) Reid of Ellisville, Emily Ann Pearson and Rachel Elizabeth Pearson, both of Madison; grandson, Connor Bradford Pearson of Madison; great-grandchildren Kylie Brooke Sumrall and Jaxon Dean Sumrall of Laurel, and Kendall Grace Reid, Kaleb Allan Reid, and Kamden Charles Reid of Ellisville. Mary's life was a testament to faith, family, and service. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew her. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at First Baptist Church of Shady Grove on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. Rev. Christopher Sledge will officiate. Pallbearers will be Allan Pearson, Steve Pearson, Connor Pearson, Matthew Sumrall, Kent Reid, and Shane Walters.
