Obituary for Gayle Knight Mildred Gayle Carter Knight, 74 of Laurel passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home from 5-9pm. Funeral Service will be at First Baptist Church of Laurel on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 2:30pm. Burial will follow at Big Creek Cemetery on Hwy 84 West. Brother Randy Turner will officiate. Gayle was born on August, 30, 1942, in Jackson County, MS and grew up in the Wade Community where she was a member of Caswell Springs Methodist Church. She graduated with honors from East Central High School then attended Perkinston Junior College and received her BS Degree in Science and Physical Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. During her teaching career, Gayle taught at St. Martin, Calhoun Elementary, West Jones High School and West Jones Elementary. Along with teaching Science and Physical Education, she was a dedicated basketball and tennis coach. Gayle “Coach” Knight was loved and admired by all of her students. She loved her students and enjoyed watching them grow up. Gayle was a member of First Baptist Church of Laurel where she attended and loved Dr. Waites Sunday School Class. Gayle loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending every minute with them. She will be missed by all of her loved ones. Gayle was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Donice V. Knight, her parents, Milton Woodrow Carter and Mildred Lucille Boutwell Carter of Wade, MS. Her brother Milton Larry Carter of Wade. Her grandparents Jack and Loula Carter of Wade, MS and Daniel and Lou Ella Jenkins Boutwell of Myrick, MS. She is survived by their three children and three grandchildren. Her children are Kim Knight of Laurel, Donna Knight Polson (David) of Haymarket, VA, and Shelly Knight Bryant of Laurel. Her grandchildren are Katie Lee Parker McMillan (Chase), Lyndsey Danielle Bryant and Matt Knight Parker, all of Laurel. She is also survived by her sister, Brenda Carter Pierce (Ronnie) and several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Matt Parker, David Polson, Chase McMillan, John Parker, Ronnie Pierce, Mike Lightsey, Byron Pierce. Memory Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
