Ora Lois Shoemaker

Ora Lois Shoemaker was born February 19, 1923 and departed this life at her residence surrounded by her family July 26, 2014. She was born in Newton County and moved to Jones County after marrying her soul mate in 1939. They were married almost 69 years before he passed September 18, 2008. Services will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 2:30 pm at Memory Chapel in Laurel with burial in Sunset Gardens in Laurel. Elder Jerry Wilkerson and Elder Mark Quarles will officiate. Music will be provided by Jay and Sandra Baucom. Lois loved attending church and loved her church family. She was the oldest living member of Erata Primitive Baptist Church in Sandersville. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Austin Shoemaker, her parents, Fred and Maud (Gibbs) Saterfiel of Lake, MS, and four brothers and sisters. Left to cherish her memories are two daughters: Linda (Joe) Tally of Forest, MS and Jill (Bill) Glenn of Laurel, MS. Four grandsons: Phil (Laura) Tally of Raleigh, MS, Ken Tally of Brandon, MS, Corey (Lacey) Hunt of Clinton, MS and Craig (Leigh Ann) Hunt of Raleigh, MS. Ten great-grandchildren: Katie (Joseph) Houston, Kyle (Danielle) Tally, Luke Tally, Kara Tally, Kassidy Tally, Chase Tally, Hayden Hunt, Carson Hunt all of Raleigh, MS, Caiden Purvis and Cori Jo Hunt of Clinton, MS. One great-great grandson: Kylen Tally of Raleigh, MS, a special life long friend (like a sister) Ellen Lowe of Laurel, MS, a host of nieces and nephews, two brothers and two sisters. Lois enjoyed gardening especially pretty flowers. She loved to crochet afghans and give them to family and friends. Calling it her therapy, she crocheted well over a hundred. Lois was a former employee of Fines Bros. Matison and Small World’s Cloud Nine. Her contagious smile and friendly personality will sadly be missed by her family, friends and neighbors. Pall bearers will be: Phil Shoemaker, Tuddy Soley, Fred Saterfiel, James Howard White, Ricky White and Tony Hosey. Memory Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
