Patricia Joan Martin

Patricia “Joan” Martin, loving mother, cherished grandmother, beloved sister and friend, passed away November 12, 2025, surrounded by her family. Joan was preceded in death by her parents Webber Clifton Gatlin and Audrey Windham Gatlin; her husband Woodrow W. Martin, Jr.; her son Woodrow “Scooter” W. Martin, III; and her brother Robert C. Gatlin. She is survived by her sons J. Michael Martin (Cecile) of Baton Rouge and Brian Martin (Dina) of Laurel; grandchildren Landon Martin (Savanna), Brock Martin and Rylan Martin, all of Laurel, and Sarah Martin and Emily Martin of Baton Rouge; sisters Gloria Myrick (George) of Sevierville, TN, Barbara Sauls (Buddy) of Heidelberg, Sylvia Tighe (Bo) of Oxford, MS; and beloved nieces and nephews. Joan received her Associates Degree in Arts from Jones County Junior College in May, 1989, and her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from William Carey College in August, 1992. She was a long time member and past president of the Jones County Republican Women. She was also a long time member of the Southern Heritage Garden Club, having held a number of club offices. She worked for the Jones County Council on Aging and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program but her true love was caring for her family. Joan loved spending time with her family, was a fabulous cook and wonderful gardener, and loved to travel. She attended Highland Baptist Church and was a member of Shady Grove First Baptist Church in Heidelberg, MS. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Shady Grove First Baptist Church in Heidelberg at 10:00 a.m. followed by services at 11:00 a.m. and graveside service at Shady Grove First Baptist Cemetery, 1220 US-11, Heidelberg, MS. Bro. Eric Estes will officiate the service and Bro. Bill Bolton will officiate at the graveside. Pallbearers will be Landon Martin, Brock Martin, Rylan Martin, Adam Sauls, Jackson Myrick, and Drew Mason. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Myrick, Gary Myrick, Jerrell Gatlin, and Stirling Tighe.
