Patrick Eugene "Gene" Mulloy

“If you leave me, I’m going with you.” – stitched on a pillow in the Mulloy home. It couldn’t be said more perfectly than that. Libby and Gene are the definition of “soulmates”. From their early years until their last days, they were the perfect pair. A bittersweet sadness fills the hearts of all who know and love them. Through their struggles over the last year, Libby courageously battling cancer and Gene steadily braving the challenges of Parkinson’s, they held hands and pressed on toward the goal, faithfully living a beautiful example of love and devotion to one another. On the evening of Sunday, November 20th, Libby had her house in order and decided it was time to go. Gene, always the gentleman, waited for her to pass and closed the door behind him just 5 hours later. They were partners in life to the very end and what a blessing they are to us all. Gene was the third generation CEO of the Mulloy family business, Laurel Machine and Foundry, a founding member of the EDA, member of the Hundred Club of Jones County, board member at the Laurel Airport Authority, and a charter member and leader at Westminster Presbyterian Church EPC of Laurel. Fun Fact: Gene founded the World Anvil Shooting Society and while a member set a World Record for anvil shooting, then was “kicked out” of the society for employing “Wile E. Coyote” tactics. He was preceded in death by his father, James Patrick Mulloy; mother, Helen Ridgway Mulloy; wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Denham Mulloy; and brother, James “Jim” William Mulloy. Survivors include his son, Trent A. Mulloy and wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Megan Elizabeth Mulloy; two grandchildren, Sloan Mulloy and Henry Mulloy; and two sisters, Judith Mulloy and Peggy Mulloy Neely. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Laurel, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Park Hills Cemetery.
