Roberta Walters Miller, “Miss Bert” passed away at her home on Friday, July 11, 2025. She was born April 20, 1927 in Laurel, Mississippi. She is preceded in death by her parents: Luther and Della Walters of Laurel, her husband: Ernest Lee Miller Sr., and infant daughter, Linda Lea Miller. She is survived by her children: Ernest Lee Miller, Jr., (Candy), Frederick Kent Miller, and Lisa Suzanne Miller all of Laurel, Mississippi. Grandchildren: Hannah Elizabeth Miller, Ernest Lee Miller III, and Anna Grace Miller. She was a member of Highland Church of Laurel, MS. She considered a dual membership at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Laurel, MS also. She received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a teenager and was baptized in Myrick. “Miss Bert”, as she was known at the Laurel Leader Call newspaper and Chronicle where she served as Circulation Bookkeeper, Receptionist, and Mama to everyone that ever worked for the paper. She started working at the paper at age 19 and served faithfully until almost 90. She was an active member of the Ellisville Garden Club. She was a faithful member of Highland Baptist Church WMU night circle. She was an incredible, hardworking gardener of flowers and huge vegetable gardens. She was an outstanding homemaker and cook. She served as the official vote counter for the city of Laurel and Jones County on election nights for several years. She never met a stranger. She spoke what was on her mind. She was an awesome encourager. Her favorite vacation spot was the Smokey Mountains. She was always ready for a drive to the Mississippi Coast for shopping, dinner and to see the ocean. One of her favorite groups of people was the Senior Adult NOAH group of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church which she travels with across the United States. She never missed a trip! Roberta was a Proverb 31 Lady…classy, beautiful, hardworking, faithful, great sense of humor, and prayer warrior! Family was truly her heart! She treasured her children so much and every single one in her extended family! The night before she died, she was heard calling their names out loud in her prayer. Visitation is Sunday, July 13, 2025 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home at 5:00-8:00p.m. Service is Monday July 14 2025 at Memory Chapel at 10:00 a.m. with interment at Myrick Cemetery. Bro. Scott Hilton, pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church will officiate. Pallbearers are Jim Ward, Fisher Lohr, David Chancellor, Gregg Russum, Anatoli Cibotarica, and Cary Rushton.
