Sandra Cason Johnston

Sandra Cason Johnston, 72, of Laurel, MS passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024 at the Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, MS, after a 17-year battle with cancer. She was born Tuesday, September 11, 1951 at Boone Clinic in Laurel. Services will be held Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Rev. Joe Garvin will officiate. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, James Grady Cason and Betty Martin Cason; brother, James G. “Jabo” Cason, Jr.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bernadine Garvin Johnston and Albert B. “Johnny” Johnston, all of Laurel; brother-in-law, Joe Hanson of Katy, TX; and sister-in-law, Janice Johnston Langdon of Laguna Woods, CA. Sandra was a born-again Christian attending Second Ave Baptist, Highland Baptist, and First Baptist Church of Sharon in Laurel for many years until her health declined. She attended the Laurel City Schools for 12 years graduating with the Class of 1969 at R. H. Watkins High School. She received a BA Degree in French and English from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1972, where she was a charter member and officer of Delta Gamma Sorority. She received her Master Degree from William Carey University in Secondary Education in 1978. She spent nearly 30 years as an 8th and 9th grade English teacher at West Jones High School, retiring due to her health in 2003. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was known as Mun to her three grandsons who she loved dearly. She was a good, kind and loving friend, always willing and eager to help anyone in need in her sweet, quiet and humble way. Survivors include her loving husband of almost 52 years, Larry B. Johnston; daughter, Kara Leigh Johnston of Petal, MS; son, Kyle Cason Johnston (Emily) of Ellisville, MS; grandchildren, Kane Malik Jackson (Em) of Petal, Cooper Roberts Johnston and Cason David Johnston of Ellisville; brother, Greg Cason of Laurel; sister-in-law, Sonya Johnston Hanson of Katy; brother-in-law, Andrew Langdon of Laguna Woods; special friend and wonderful caregiver, Susan Clark of Petal; special aunts, Cherry Martin Lee (Leige) of Byram, MS and Modena Martin of Jackson, MS; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Pallbearers will be Kane Malik Jackson, Dr. Adrian Sims, Andrew Langdon, Craig Cummings, George Mason, Douglas Posey, David Roberts, Cooper Johnston and Cason Johnston. Honorary pallbearers will be W. Dale Keyes, Jerone Albritton, Jeff Bailey, Mark Mackey, Mike Jordan, Mike Walley, Steve Garvin, and George Blackledge. A very special thanks to FGH Home Hospice and the Asbury Hospice House staff. Your care for my wife and family during these last months were truly a gift from God!
