Mrs. Shirley Wilson Chancellor, age 85, of Ellisville, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Care Center of Laurel. The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care she received there. The staff loved and cared for Nanny as one of their own, and their kindness and dedication brought comfort to both her and her family. Born on July 19, 1940, Shirley lived a life centered around family, hard work, and the simple joys of everyday life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved “Nanny” to those who knew and loved her best. Shirley spent many years working in the cafeteria for Laurel City Schools, where she was known for her dedication and caring nature. She enjoyed fishing, reading, and spending time outdoors. She especially loved gardening and took pride in growing both beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables. She also took great pride in her yard and was well known by her family for burning leaves and keeping everything neat and cared for. Whether she was working in her garden, sitting with a good book, or spending time with family, Shirley found happiness in life’s simple moments. More than anything, Shirley loved her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her endless joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them. To her family, she was simply “Nanny”—a source of love, wisdom, comfort, and countless cherished memories. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terrell Chancellor; her parents, Bishop and Ruby Wilson; son-in-law David Thornton; grandson, Cory Chancellor; and brothers Wayne Wilson and Merle Wilson. Left to cherish her memory are her brother Kenneth Wilson; daughter, Cynthea Thornton; her son, Michael Chancellor (Beverly); her grandchildren, Brandi Minter, Benjamin Chancellor, Nathanial Craven (Kayla), granddaughter-in-law, Kayla Chancellor; and her great-grandchildren, Taylor Minter (Kippy), Kynleigh Minter, Myles Craven, Myla Craven, Liam Taylor, Riggins Taylor, Charley Kate Chancellor, and Carter Chancellor. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the love, laughter, and memories Nanny gave us throughout her 85 years. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved so dearly, and she will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. Visitation will be Friday June 19, 2026, from 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. Brother Howard Morgan will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Craven, Kippy Touchstone, Jonathon Johnson, Stacy Chancellor, Tom Duong, and Zack Hodges.
