Vada Hill Wheeler

Vada Hill Wheeler was born on February 2, 1924, to Minnie “Emmie” Ulmer and Huey “Big Papa” Ulmer and passed from this earth into glory on July 26, 2022. Vada spent many days working in Sandersville, Mississippi, at Bell’s Cafe saving money while her husband, Willard Wilson Hill, was off fighting in World War II. Upon his return from the war, she had saved enough to buy land and later build a house! Later in life, Vada worked at Sanderson Farms and worked longer and harder than most folks can attest. She retired from Sanderson Farms after many years of service. Soon fate would have it that she married our Pa Charlie, Charles Eugene Wheeler, after both she and him had suffered sudden massive grief. They married, and for many years, she was his caregiver through a hard fight with cancer. As one can imagine, she had a strong work ethic and could outwork most anyone even on a bad day. After retirement, she spent most of her days taking care of grandchildren and great grandchildren helping whenever and wherever needed. Grandma Vada was a woman of few words but goodness when she spoke, she meant business no doubt. She gladly and tirelessly was the caregiver for both of her husbands and, of course, outlived them both. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Wilson Hill, her husband, Charles Eugene Wheeler, her parents, Huey and Minnie Emmie Welborn Ulmer, all of her sisters and brothers, Vallie Ulmer Temple, Owens Ulmer, Odis Ulmer, Emmie Lee Ulmer, Ernest Ulmer, Willie Bee Ulmer Bass, Estelle Ulmer Hancock, Minnie Lou Ulmer Hill, William Ray Ulmer, Robert Eugene Ulmer, an infant sister, her only child, Jimmy Ray Hill, and granddaughter Paula Hicks Gipson. She is survived by her grandchildren, Terri (Alan) Rhea, Andrea Hill, and Lindy (David) Lee. She was fortunate enough to have an additional set of grandchildren later in life and they include Essa Hicks, Mark (Shawna) Wheeler, Jon (Marilyn) Wheeler, Joy (Terry) Tillery, Lance (Becky) Huff, Kellye Huff, and Jared Reeves. We are so thankful our grandmother lived such a full and abundant life and was able to celebrate her 98th birthday! What a blessing!
