William Donald Polen, Sr.

William Donald Polen, Sr., age 93, of Laurel, passed away at Forrest General Hospital on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, surrounded by his family. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2015, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel. Funeral Services will also be at Memory Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015, with burial to follow at Sunset Gardens. Mr. Polen, affectionately known as Pawpaw, was born at home on August 20, 1921 in Dover, Ohio, to Frank Monroe Polen and Alice Schwab Polen, weighing one pound. Even then, God had a special plan for his life. Mr. Polen entered the United States Army on July 27, 1942 at the age of 20. After being stationed at various locations, he was stationed at Camp Van Dorn, Mississippi on January 5, 1943. He met the love of his life, Helen Roberts in May of 1944 while at Camp Van Dorn, and they married there in the chapel on July 3, 1944. He was honorably discharged from the Army on November 1, 1945. He was a graduate of Lee College in Cleveland, Tennessee and retired as an accountant with Graham Supply Company in Laurel. In addition to his parents and brothers, Mr. Polen was preceded in death by a son William Donald Polen, Jr.; a granddaughter Julie Katherine Polen; and a great grandson Robert Blake Robison. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen Roberts Polen of Laurel; daughter Sarah Polen Boody (Robert) of Calimesa, California; daughter-in-law Pam Burleson Polen of Hixson, Tennessee; son L. Ronald Polen (Ann) of Laurel; daughter Katrina Polen Regan (Ken) of Laurel; and daughter Marcia Polen Easterwood of Laurel. In addition, he is survived by 15 Grandchildren: Tony Boody (Staci), Daniel Boody (Cindy), Amy Polen Stallings (Seth), Tripp Polen (Julie), Brad Jones (Hilary), Adam Polen, Andrew Polen, Mandy Robison (Robert), Melody Read (Grahame), Neil Polen (Dani), Heather Christian (Jason), Joel Miller (Shae), Jennifer Miller, Katelyn Regan, Matt Easterwood, and 19 Great Grandchildren: Natalie Boody, Jake Boody, Jayden Boody, Sadie Boody, Thatcher Boody, Gage Hildago, Luke Stallings, Reed Stallings, Sophie Polen, Addison Jones, Madison Robison, Morgan Robison, Meredith Robison, Emily Anne Read, Margaret Helen Read, Anna Kate Christian, Kara Christian, Emma Miller and Judah Carr.
