Zettie Hancock McCardle

At the age of 74, Zettie Hancock McCardle of Laurel, MS, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024. She was born October 14, 1949, in Laurel, MS, as the second daughter of Johnnie Llyod and Merle Evans Hancock. She spent her childhood in Taylorsville, MS, and graduated from Taylorsville High School in 1968. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, sister, Johnnie Merle Blakeney (John Billy), brother-in-law John McCardle, and sister-in-law Martha White (Jim). She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Burnice E. “Buddy” McCardle Jr., her three children Brad McCardle (Paige), Chris McCardle (Rena), and Melissa Dearman, and former son-in-law Richie Dearman. She is also survived by her grandchildren Mary Bradley McCardle, Brooks McCardle, Tatum Smith (Shelby), Anna McCardle (Jacob Parchert), Amber McCardle, Austen Banks (Rachel), Adam Banks (Brelyn), Megan Dearman (Sean Dennis), Zach Dearman (Lexie Dema), Logan Dearman, and five great-grandchildren, Mia, Isla, and Rafe Smith, Elijah Dennis, and Cooper Parchert. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who she loved very much. Zettie was a loving outgoing person who loved and protected her family. She never met a stranger and would talk and cut up with anyone. She loved to shop for new clothes and jewelry and would look for hours for that special something to buy. She had a talent for decorating; however, she could not put it to use due to spending so much time caring for her family. Under no circumstances would she miss a ballgame of one of her children or grandchildren. The fondest memories of Zettie were her never-ending desire to make sure umpires or referees made a bad call; this happened often. Although she had difficulties with communicating, she loved her preacher and her church family at Trinity Baptist Church. Pall bearers will be Mike Evans, Mitch Evans, Blake Blakeney, Lane Jordan, Zach Dearman, Logan Dearman, and Brooks McCardle. Services will be at Trinity Baptist Church on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 2 pm. Visitation will be from 12 pm to 2 pm immediately preceding the service. Interment will be in Shady Grove Cemetery. Rev. Bill Blair will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Zettie’s memory to Trinity Baptist Church or The Mission at The Cross. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Forrest General Hospital ICU for the loving care they gave Zettie.
