Alan Ervin

Alan Ervin passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on February 2, 2023, at the age of 50. Alan was born September 29, 1972, to Ann Ervin and the late Rex Ervin. Alan was a graduate of Stringer Attendance Center. He worked as a construction worker and pipeline worker before becoming disabled. He also served as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Fire Fighter in the Stringer Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years. Being a part of the fire department was the highlight of Alan’s life and gave him the outlet to help his community and serve others in their times of need. He also earned the Fire Fighter of the Year award from the Stringer Volunteer Fire Department. Alan was a great son and a caring friend. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping, and canoeing. Alan will be remembered by the people in his life for his compassion and determination to help others. He was the type of person who would make everyone feel welcome with a warm smile. He loved to closely monitor impending storms to ensure the safety of his family and friends. We can only hope that while he was on earth, we made it known how much his life of service meant to others and his community. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, V.A. & Faye Flyntt, Hudson & Annie Ruth Ervin. Survivors include his beloved mother and a host of aunts, uncles, & cousins. Visitation and service will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. Visitation will be Sunday, February 5, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Monday, February 6th at 2:00 p.m. with interment following at Liberty Cemetery in Jasper County. Bro. Travis Watkins and Bro. Tony Johnson will officiate. Serving as pallbearers are his brothers from the Stringer Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers are Steven Butler, Ken Ervin, Sam Ervin, Neil Scrimpshire, and Paul Everett. The family of Alan Ervin wishes to extend our sincere thanks to his cousins, Michelle & Steven Butler, for their fellowship and comfort during this time. A special thanks to Forrest General Hospice Care and all the staff who provided amazing care to Alan and went out of their way to make sure the family felt at ease during his final days.
