Billye J. Myrick
February 21, 1932 - February 27, 2021
Billye J. Myrick, 89, a beloved mother, Mimi, sister, family member, and friend passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 27, 2021. She was born February 21, 1932, in Winston County, Mississippi, to L.E. and Laverne Shepperd. Billye married Adolph Myrick, Jr., February 7 of 1950, and moved to Oklahoma, followed by Virginia, and eventually moved back and lived the majority of her married life in Mississippi. This is where she welcomed their beloved son and daughter, Tony and Tami, and began her lasting legacy. Billye served her community as a military wife and by working as School Secretary at Taylorsville High School for many years. She felt her true calling in life was to be a homemaker, and this is what she’s most remembered for. She spent most of her days caring for her family, friends, and neighbors. She could be found reading her Bible, reading Sunday School lessons and books, picking up grandchildren from school, and encouraging her family to be brave, and strong, and to not give in to self-pity or hardships. She was an encourager, had a servant’s heart, and was full of wisdom. She was a great storyteller and enjoyed telling her family about her success in school to encourage her loved ones to help them excel themselves. She was a firm believer that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing right. Her strength, perseverance and independence were admirable to all who knew her. To know Billye was to love her. She was kind, compassionate, and welcoming. Her home was always open to others and was the local gathering spot for her grandchildren and their friends. Billye was very involved in her church and community. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Columbia as well as the Women’s Mission Union. She promoted education and patriotism as a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as their State Regent and Scribe. She is preceded in death by her parents, Luther Eugene and Laverne Shepperd; her brother, Bobby Myrick; and her husband, Adolph Myrick, Jr. She leaves behind a host of friends and family that will miss her dearly and remember her always. She is survived by her sister, Sue Beckman (Charles) of Pasadena, TX; her son, Louis Anthony “Tony” Myrick (Nancy) of Friendswood, TX; her daughter Tami Hall of Columbia, MS. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Cody Moore (Marci) of Nolensville, TN; Tyler Hall (Sara) of Sandy Hook, MS; Christopher Myrick and Stephen Myrick of Friendswood, TX, and five great grandchildren: Manning and McCarty Moore of Nolensville, TN; Locklyn Hall, Sawyer Barrett, and Tatum Barrett of Sandy Hook, MS. There will be a graveside celebration of her life at Crestview Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on March 2, 2021. To sign the online guest book, visit www.memorychapellaurel.com.
