Charles Gary Ormand Sr.

November 17, 1937 - June 27, 2020

Charles Ormand passed peacefully on June 28 at the age of 82 at Asbury Hospice in Hattiesburg after fighting a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Holifield Ormand, and three adult children, Chad Ormand (Carol), Susan Watts (Greg), and Debbie Ormand-Hubbard (Lee). He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Conner Sinclair, his father and step-mother, Charles and Thedas Ormand, and the mother of his three children, Kathryn Johnson. He was loved by all his family members and extended family to include the families of his siblings, Peggy Buddin, Raye Dusenbury, Keith Ormand, and Pat Bradshaw, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He had many names: Growing up, he was called Gary. As an adult, upon entering the military, he was known as Chuck. When he became a Grandpa, his grandson Patrick named him Munch, which stuck. To this day, Patrick does not know where that name came from; nonetheless, the love for Munch love grew bigger and deeper. As an Army Retiree and Vietnam War Veteran, he had tours of duty in Germany, Mississippi, North Carolina, Texas, Washington DC, and California. He served in the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. He retired from the Army at the Rank of Major. He loved learning and never stopped his whole life. He has a Bachelor of Science double major in microbiology and psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Masters in Education from the University of Southern California. His last degree was an associate in Computer Science from Jones College. He was a devoted family man and had lived in Laurel since 2001 with his wife Rebecca. He was loved by all his family, neighbors and his extended Laurel family. Graveside services will be held at Indian Springs Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Lee Hubbard will officiate. To sign the online guest book, visit www.memorychapellaurel.com.
