Deborah Bass Smith

October 25, 1951 - March 23, 2020

Deborah Bass Smith was born October 25, 1951. Deborah was born to James (Beau) Bass and Ethel Ford Bass. She passed to her heavenly home on March 23, 2020. She was married to the love of her life, Pastor Kenneth Smith, for 47 years. Together they had two children, Jason (Alethia) Smith and Amanda (Jon) Whigham. Out of high school she went to UMC and studied to become an OR Tech. She worked alongside her mother at State Hospital. Eventually she worked several different jobs. She worked at Highland Learning Center alongside her daughter and niece for many years. Anyone who knew her loved her. She thoroughly enjoyed working, cooking, and helping people. She enjoyed spending time with her four grandsons and family. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She will always be known for her famous dressing and it will never be replicated. On Saturdays in the fall, you would find her cheering for her favorite team – Alabama. Deborah was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Paula Hanrahan McLaurin and Constance Bass Glenn. She is survived by her heart broken, loving, husband and her two adoring children and four beautiful grandsons: Avery Jonathan, Kyndon Lee, Ryder Whigham, and Bryden Beare; brother, James Alan Bass; and a host of nieces and nephews. Bro. Daryl Coats will officiate the graveside funeral at Sharon Cemetery on Wednesday, March 25th at 2:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Auston Bynum, Reece Bynum, Avery Whigham, Kyndon Whigham, Chris Nixon, and Aaron Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryder Whigham, Bryden Whigham, and Jon Whigham. To sign the online guest book, visit www.memorychapellaurel.com.
