Jerry O. Blue

Jerry O. Blue, a loving father, grandfather, and proud Army veteran, passed away peacefully at 82, surrounded by his loving family in Silsbee, TX, on April 19th, 2024. Jerry was born on December 06, 1941, in Laurel, MS, to Rev. A.O. (Niecy) Blue and Nora Walters Blue. Jerry was a proud father of Jerrie “Denise” Blue (Amos) of Waynesboro, MS, Teresa Terry of Silsbee, TX, and Gwinda Griffin of Lumberton, TX. He was a cherished brother of Paul Blue (Barbara) of Laurel, MS, beloved Paw-paw of Marcos Avila of Silsbee, TX, Maxwell Avila of Haymarket, VA, Michelle Shelton (Kevin) of Lumberton, TX, Mallory Scott (Jordan) of Baytown, TX, Kendra Griffin of Lumberton, TX, Shanna Hobson (Brad) of Shubuta, MS, Mariah Paulus (Daniel) of Sour Lake, TX, Ryan Schuff of Waynesboro, MS, Kalie Fraser (Nathan) of Silsbee, TX, Kaitlyn Griffin of Lumberton, TX, Klaire Griffin of Lumberton, TX, loving great-grandfather of 19 children and beloved uncle to a host of many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joan Blue Byrd, brothers Delyn and Charles Blue, and sons-in-law Kenneth Griffin and Stenson Terry. Jerry served on active duty in the US Army from 1962 to 1965. To know him was to love him, and you knew he never went without his black coffee and his peanut butter on a spoon. He loved family and family gatherings, and his favorite hobbies were reading and studying The Word of God and praying daily. He believed in the Lord with all his heart; his faith never wavered. He was a life-long Christian who emphasized Christ to his children and grandchildren and continued growing as a Christian until the end of his life. “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.” Romans 4:20 There will be a visitation for family and friends on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home located at 3100 Audubon Drive in Laurel, MS 39440.
