Sandra Griffin Odom

Sandra Griffin Odom, age 74 of Sandersville, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018. She was born to the late Marvin Griffin and Fannie Mae Griffin of Clara, MS on August 4, 1943. If you met Sandra Odom, you would agree a stranger always found a friend, friends found a family, and family found their world. Friends were Sandra’s passion and delight. Sandra had an abundant ability to reach people in a deep and loving way. She loved to cook and no one would be allowed to leave her home hungry, and she enjoyed entertaining her family and friends. She loved cooking and baking things for her family and friends. She loved to golf and was very active and loved being outdoors working in her flower beds and gardening until her sickness restricted her activities. Sandra was very talented in making crafts out of just about anything she could find. Playing scrabble with her friends and family was a favorite time that she cherished. Sandra also worked with the local food mission in Laurel, MS. Sandra is preceded in death by her father Marvin Griffin and mother Fannie Mae Griffin, twin brothers at birth, sister Oweta Mills, and brother Al Griffin. She is survived by her husband Robert Odom to whom she was married for going on 27 years. They lived in the Sandersville, MS community, where Robert will remain as a member of the Sandersville community. Left to honor Sandra and remember her love are Sandra’s brother and children: brother Howard Griffin, and children Michael and Kim Street, Scott and Elizabeth Odom, Connie and Denny Caraway, Crystal and Scott Swear, Kimberly Fields, and Karen Boykin. Sandra loved her grandchildren: Calvin Caraway, Jeremy Street, Tanner Street, Kyle Davis, William Caraway, Brandi Birchett, Morgan Graham, Kaycee Knight, Sawyer Graham, Matthew Odom, Amanda Odom Dees, Kalee Odom Sailors, Jason Odom, Brandon Boykin, Hannah Boykin, Darren Fields, and Deaven Fields. Her great grandchildren became the joy of her life: Caden Street, Caroline Davis, Eamon Caraway, Makinsley Caraway, Mia Caraway, Kason Knight, Holton Knight, Baylee Odom, Raelynn Odom, Jaiden Odom, Breanna Dees, Carson Dees, Paxton Boykin, Parker Boykin, and Luke Boykin. Sandra loved all her many nieces and nephews as her own as well. Pall bearers: Jeremy Street, Mathew Odom, Kevin Dees, Deaven Fields, Sawyer Graham, Calvin Caraway. Honorary pall bearers: Tanner Street, Kyle Davis, Darren Fields. Visitation will be held at Memory Chapel on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Memory Chapel beginning at 10 a.m. with the service following at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Laurel. Sandra requested a small private funeral. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her and called during her time of need.
