C. C. Singleton, aka "Cecil", 78, of Laurel, MS, died October 20, 2014, at South Central Hospital, Laurel, Mississippi, after a brief illness. C. C. was the son of Gray Singleton and Emma Jane Singleton Burnett of Richton, MS who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his eldest son, Cecil Anthony “Tony” Singleton; and sisters, Rosa Lee Jelk, Ernie Mae Burnett and Allie Ruth Palmer. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 59 years, Eleanor LaRose “Rose” Singleton; one daughter, Joann (Sammy) Hill of Ellisville, Mississippi; one son, Acie Singleton of Montrose, Mississippi; daughter-in-law, Nanette Singleton; grandsons, Jason Reid of Ellisville, MS, and Dexter Singleton; one granddaughter, Suzette (Brian) Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Brance and Brady Sullivan, all of Taylorsville, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews. C. C. was born on June 16, 1936, in Perry County, MS. C. C. officially retired in 1998 from Texaco. However, he couldn’t just sit at home. He worked several places doing odd jobs, but the job he most enjoyed was working with Brodie Myrick in the logging business. Logging was in his blood. C. C. was a member of Men’s Four Sunday school class, Sharon First Baptist Church, Laurel, MS. C.C had a passion for Coon hunting and fishing. He and his coon hunting buddies solved many of the world problems during a night of coon hunting. You could often find him and Mrs. Rose on a creek bank. C. C. was an aspiring musician. He loved to play the Fiddle and the Dulcimer. C. C. had a great love for his family and friends and his many coon dogs over the years, two in particular Rod and Penny. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 22, 2014, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Memory Chapel, Laurel, MS, and Thursday, 10 a.m. at Sharon First Baptist Church, with service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Scott Stringer will officiate. Internment will be at Sharon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sharon First Baptist Church, 4375 Sharon Road, Laurel, MS 39443. Pallbearers will be Lindsey Hill, Brodie Myrick, J. B. Pitts, Jim Kervin, Roger Walker, Ryan Walker, Dexter Singleton, and Brian Sullivan. Memory Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
